So I decided to grab the books, read up on them, and write up a module. The Sun Goes Down with a Ruby Smile – a level 1 standalone module for 3-5 players“A small port seems the perfect place to dock when a freak storm forces the small trade cog, Sea’s Rock, to find solid ground. But the newly discovered port town raises questions: where are all the residents, and which ones of them are still alive?”
I've always had a soft spot for the single adventure modules. Campaigns are always going to be my favorite, but some of my favorite days were spent showing up at the local nerd shop with 15+ other D&D'ers and the four or five tables of DM's who'd let people sit with them at random and just start up an adventure.
The Ghosts of Mistmoor is the module that really got me hooked on D&D. It's downright perfect, and I love the simplicity of its layout. As you'll see in my module, I've laid it out in pretty much the same vein, except with maps at the end of the module in the appendices.
With that said, feel free to read over it or run the module with your group. I'm taking any and all kinds of feedback or criticism since I want to post at least 1 module a month on my blog (insomniacsink.com) to pull in traffic from tabletop hobbyists. My next one is already in the works, and it's going to be a doozy. I mainly want to know how easy the module reads and if it's engaging or not.
Happy DM'ing! May your PC's die fun and glorious deaths! |

I'll definitely download and take a look. I enjoy seeing what other players and DMs come up with.

I can see the fight with Maovor being too quick, or too easy. He only has 35 HP, 40 if I max him out. His rock attack only does 1d4+4, should I give him a d6 instead? I can't count on his bellow attack affecting too many characters, and i know that either way, if the fight is too hard, the party can just drown him by pushing him into the river, so I'm not 100% worried that a little more damage or HP will make for a super hard fight.
Are my ideas good enough to balance the big fight for 6 players? |
