| #1The_StrayOct 07, 2014 10:10:46 | Here's the situation: Last session, the party paladin was meeting with a contact of hers, a criminal she once saved from a beating at the hands of a more strict member of her order. She was attempting to get some information about a lair of necromancers when the two of them were attacked by that same uptight paladin, who was looking to bring the contact in.
Our paladin defended the contact, but gave him the impression she was taking him in on her own. This NPC has some trust issues, so he bolted. She chased him down, he stabbed her and then dropped into the sewers and vanished.
Now our paladin feels guilty about the situation, and wants to make amends. And the party still needs the information this contact has. So I'm looking for some story ways to help the Paladin mend fences with the contact. |

Let the players work it out. They obviously have goals here: 1.) obtain info & 2.) restore relations with this contact.
You should look for obstacles. Why can't they simply get the info and apologize? What's in the way? Is the contact on the lam? Afraid of the paladin?
If there's nothing stopping them from finding the contact, apologizing, and getting the info they need, then just let them. Otherwise, they need to find a way to achieve their goals - that's not your job, really. |

The backup plan, if you really need it: Contact has info. Info is a two-edged sword. As much as someone wants it, someone else doesn't want it getting out. Contact is being hunted down, reaches out to Paladin for protection. Whatever else you might think about Paladins, you know they won't let you get murdered in cold blood. |

When they do put them in touch with a friend of the contact where they can explain the situation and let them know they mean the contact no harm. Then have the contact emerge out from behind a curtain or something and accept the apology and give them the info. Easy Peasy
If for some reason they don’t seek out the contact then nuts to them cuz they an’t trying. If the info is vital for your adventure then have the friend above seek out the paladin and demand an explanation.

Breaking the contact out of jail or preventing an execution makes a great dilemma where the party and the Paladin have some difficult moral choices to make about the greater good. |
| #8AnsbachOct 07, 2014 11:13:57 | What's the big rush to immediately resolve the issue?
Let the Paladin stew, not everything always works out in their favor. Have them get the information another way now. It's great news for you - the Paladin just bolstered one of your NPC cast members to a higher status. That's perfect for bringing them back later with a twist at an interesting time, or even turning them into a villain (or under the influence of one) ... |
