Hey guys, I need to run a few (first level) adventures in 5E with people that have already been through or read the Lost Mine of Phandalin.

Since they are familiar with it, I thought it would be fun to use the same area and goings-on for a homebrew adventure or two, but I'm not feeling very creative at the moment and am struggling to generate any ideas that I actually like.

For starters, I was thinking of giving the party the same basic background with Gundren Rockseeker saying at the end, "I've hired another group to escort our supply waggon to Phandalin, but while they are doing that I need you guys to..."

Or maybe they are hired by Sildan Hallwinter, or start adventuring in Phandalin.

Anyone done something similar already or have some good ideas to kick around?

If they avoided the dragon rather than killed it or drove it off, you can kick things off with the dragon snacking on some of the locals. I'd focus him on the halfling farm. You can assume that the cultists were successful in bringing him into the effort to amass a tribute to Tiamat, so there's plenty of legs to this.

You could also expand on the Red Wizard if they've left him to his devices. He could have finished his observation of the tower and set his sights on taking over the mine. If the players earned a share of the mine, they'll be motivated to safeguard their property.

The orcs are another reasonable basis for an adventure. They could be breaking the treaty and restarting the war.
