#1 Asperdn Sep 09, 2014 12:06:04	Ok we have Bob all powerful Bob a theoretical wizard of 1st level. If Bob prepares the spell identify ahead of time can he cast it as a ritual spell without a spell book? If he casts it as a ritual spell without his spell book in hand does it consume a spell slot?

#4 ankiyavon Sep 09, 2014 13:30:36	A spell can be cast as either a normal spell or as a ritual.     If Bob has Identify prepared, he can cast it as a normal spell.  Doing this consumes a spell slot and does not require his spell book. Whether or not he has it prepared, if he has his spell book and Identify is in it, he can cast it as a ritual.  Casting it as a ritual takes longer and does not consume a spell slot.     So without his spell book, Bob can only cast it as a normal spell, which consumes a spell slot, and he can do this because he has it prepared.  If he did not have it prepared, and did not have his spell book, he could not cast it at all.
