I have an issue with my PCs in that they are not in character enough and it slows the game down. They take too long to decide how to act when I feel if they were in character their decisions would be faster because they would be character driven and not five people debating whats the best thing to do.
IThat being said I have 5 PCs so that is a lot of voices. I have 2 experianced players and essentially 3 new players, or infrequent Roleplayers.
While I'd take additional advice, which probably needs more information on the PCs personality types I wanted to see if anyone has used this Inspiration variant I came up with reading the current one in the DMG.
Inspiration Captain/Dealer: Once the DM awards the first Inspiration of the session the PC becomes the Inspiration Captain, they are the only PC allowed to award Inspiration post-action and the PC selected also becomes the new Captain.
As a DM i'd still award more Inspiration but I feel this method awards the person who imersses themselves early, but also gives other players to earn inspiration by staying in character and waiting for the Captain.
I don't see many drawbacks to this method. As a DM I'd veto any favouritism or unwarrented assignment, the qualifications for Inspiration would be set early but flexible so the Captain doesn't feel they are going to get veto'd too much but also not reluctant to hand it out.
Post action I thought was also really important so they can't use it as a tool when in a jam.
Thoughts? This DMG I got myself for Xmas is really making my Boxing Day inspired :D |

I think in the best games, players will be getting inspiration more and more because it means that they are playing to their flaws and personality traits.
Go for it. See how it works.
Quite frankly, I'd let any player, award inpiration to another at any time. Again, since it can't stack, I don't think it will be abused. Also, it keeps everyone in the game even when they aren't taking a turn and it becomes a way for players to validate others for making the game more fun. |
