Shadowfell wouldn't be terribly hard to convert I would think, most of the stuff there was straight forward and could be replaced with 5E version monsters if I recall, but I'd love conversion notes on the Tomb of Horrors hardback. We had a blast with that one in 4E and I would totally run it in 5E. But it was full of all sorts of traps and hazards with very 4E centric mechanics. |
| #3AaronOfBarbariaApr 07, 2015 10:51:23 | I don't think anything like a "quick and dirty" conversion will work out all that well - a bit more deliberate adjustment is in order, whether it is starting the PCs out at level 3 or 4 and using nearest equivalents for monsters (i.e. a kobold minion would be a normal kobold, while a slinger would likely have light armor and a few vials of alchemist's fire, and a dragonshield would have medium armor, a shield, and a better melee weapon like a shortsword or spear) but not changing the number of monsters, or it is entirely rebuilding encounters using nearest equivalent or thematically appropriate monsters with the 5th edition encounter budgets.
Either way, it isn't really difficult work, just likely to be a bit time consuming if you are taking any caution not to have the players end up over their heads (since facing 12 kobolds of assorted types is an entirely different experience in the 4e paradigm, where it is likely a reasonable challenge for low-level characters, than it is in the 5e paradigm, where it is likely to tear apart a party that doesn't have at least a few levels to work with). |
