#1 Thedoctorbatman May 15, 2015 15:48:11	So I thought this was the right place but if it's not, I'm sorry.   I bought the Princes of the Apocalypse book to run with some friends. This will be the first campaign I've DM'd in 5e and after looking through the book I see that not all the stats for the monsters it mentions are in the back. I assumed they were probably in the monster manual, but after looking at the table of contents I'm finding that that's not the case. I tried to look at the companion piece for it, but it didn't look like these enemies were in there. Anyone know where to find stats for simple things in 5e like bears, bandits, flying swords and specters?   If they're in the monster manual in a weird place and I'm just dumb for not seeing them, pardon me. I'm new to following a set campaign.
#2 pukunui May 15, 2015 16:06:52	Welcome to the forums, and welcome to D&D!   As you've no doubt surmised, the Princes of the Apocalypse book only contains stats for NPCs and monsters that are unique to the adventure. Everything else can be found in the 5e Monster Manual. If you haven't got that, all the stats you need are also in the free pdf supplement available on the D&D website.   The supplement is ordered alphabetically, while the Monster Manual lists some things by category or lumps them into larger groups. The flying sword, for example, can be found under "Animated Objects". Mundane animals like bears are in Appendix A: Miscellaneous Creatures, while generic NPCs like bandits are in Appendix B: Nonplayer Characters. For future reference, when trying to find a specific creature in the Monster Manual, I'd suggest looking in the index at the back rather than the table of contents.   I hope that helps, and good luck with your game!
