Hi!

I really liked the milestones system from Tyrany of dragons and for Princes of the apocalypse I am the DM, so I was looking forward to have an easy time with the giving of experience. I also feel that it is more 'epic' to actually gain a level for an accomplishment rather than a random encounter that just happened to bring the characters over a set limit.

Is there anyone out there who figured out a nice way to incoorporate milestones to PotA?

The book has a small section for each chapter that outlines level milestones. The Haunted Keeps (chapter 3) each award one level. Each quadrant of Tyar-Besil (chapter 4) awards one level. Chapter 5 is slightly different, the text states: "As a rough guideline, the party should gain one level after clearing the Fane, one level after finishing the first elemental node they explore, and one more level after completing the third node they explore."

Assuming the party goes through everything this would place a 3rd level starting party at 14th level. I would assume that your 15th level advance would be made upon completion of the module.

Another way of looking at it is that advancement (and thus XP) incentivizes the type of behavior you want to see in your game. So if you want players to go to the areas the DM has prepared (or the module as presented) or to follow a plot, then milestones make sense. Thus, I think milestones are an especially good way of handling XP/advancement in a published adventure.
