Radiation Poisoning Question

Hi all,

I am running the 3.5e Paizo Adventure Path Iron Gods which is essentially about a crashed spaceship and its mad AI.  Its essentially a modernised, cthulisied version of Expediation to the Barrier Peaks.

I am updating as I go along to make it 5e.  Monsters and NPCs are farily straightforward as are many tech/magic items.  But I am not sure how to update interpet radiation damage into 5e style poison damage since 5e seems to shy away from ability damage but radiation damage in 3e is all ability damage with a strength and constiation as primary and secondary damage type.

This is what I have at the moment but I am not really happy with it:

Low-Radiation (Contact). A creature subjected to this poison must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or become poisoned for 1 hour.

Medium-Radiation (Contact). A creature subjected to this poison must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or become poisoned for 1 day.  A second save is required at the end of the one day or the creature also loses 1d4 Strength.

Medium-Radiation (Contact). A creature subjected to this poison must succeed on a DC 20 Constitution saving throw or become poisoned for 1 day.  A second save is required at the end of the first day or the creature also loses 1d4 Strength.  At the end of the first month another save is required or the creature loses 1d6 Constitution points.

Did you considered having radiation inflict levels of exhaustion instead?

Not sure if 5e has it, but I think the "weakend" condition would make sense as a result of radiation poisoning at some point.  In addition, maybe reduce max HP while in the area of effect.  Reduce by one HD for low, two at medium, three at high, four at severe?  Maybe that is to much, but you get the idea.

Hi Dave, that condition doesnt exist anymore.  Though I feel exhaustion works well since the end point of exhaustion is death so it simulates the slow accumalation of radiation well enougth.  Used it last night and it scared my characters and they took days/magic to recover from a low dose of radiation over a prolonged period of time.
