#1 Delazar78 Feb 09, 2015 6:17:50	Ok, this may sound confusing, so bear with me... WARNING COMPUTER NOOB HERE   I want to print the grip map of the boss fight for my next session on a big paper (A1, or even A0).   I gave the guy at the print shop the jpeg file I want to print, and I told him I want each "square" on the image to be approx. 1 inch (2,5 cm). He told me that he will charge me for "modifying" the pic, and the minimum charge is "per hour" of work, even if it's 5 minutes of work...   Now, do you know of an easy way to do this kind of thing myself?   I tried something by using excel, where I can see how may inches each square will be, but then the image is coming out on multiple papers, and that not what I want.   Any experts out there?   thanks in advance!
#2 vipLink Feb 11, 2015 2:57:07	Hey,   you'll need some Photo Editing Software, like GIMP.   Try this Tutorial: http://www.fantasticmaps.com/2012/01/tips-and-tricks-rescaling-maps-and-slicing-them-up/   That should give you all the Info you need.   I wouldn't know how to do this with Excell, but GIMP is available for free, and it's pretty good, but maybe a bit complicated to use. If your having trouble feel free to ask.
#3 Delazar78 Feb 10, 2015 23:31:34	thanks for the tip! I've downloaded GIMP, and looked at the tutorial... but I have no idea what I'm doing.   there's a lot of little text and little icons everywhere, and I really can't find my way...   maybe something else a bit more user friendly?

#5 Mad_Jack Feb 11, 2015 0:52:00	The easiest solution is to break the maps up into sections that'll fit on standard paper and then tape them together. If you want something printed on non-standard paper it's gonna cost you - going to someplace like Staples which does printing as a side business may be cheaper than going to Kinkos or someplace where they usually do larger business.    If you're a computer newb, your best bet is just biting the bullet and learning to modify the image yourself. If you're planning to do this with a lot of maps, you're going to need to learn to do it at some point unless you've got the cash to burn. Put in the time and effort to learn just like we all did when we first got on the computer - you'll be better off for it in the end.     Learning GIMP is easy - you open up an image, then just pick one of the buttons and press it to see what it does... Sooner or later you'll figure out everything you need to. I'm pretty sure there's a GIMP forum around somewhere if you search for it, and they should be able to explain everything you need to know to do it on your own step by step.
#6 Delazar78 Feb 11, 2015 4:35:35	ok, thanks for the encouragement!   to clarify, I'm more than willing to spend the money to have the image printed on poster-sized paper... the issue is that I need to provide the printing shop with a file that is already of the right size.
#7 neilselden Feb 11, 2015 5:35:51	HI, If you've got it printing with 1" squares now you should be able take that file and just print it out on whatever sized paper. Make sure that in all cases you print it 'actual size'... meaning do not scale the image when it is printed. Hope this helps, Neil

With a free program I found, paint, and some simple math you can increase the size of maps to the proper size with a couple mins and little work. #11 Delazar78 Feb 13, 2015 5:18:51	thanks for the offer Tovenar!   in the meanwhile, I found a site online where I can upload PDFs and it will resize them. With a bith of math, I managed to produce a PDF with exactly the right size. Tested it at the print shop, and it's exactly what I need!   now on to the next step... creating my own maps!
