#1 Llenlleawg Mar 31, 2015 14:22:17	I have an idea for a Persian/Indian-themed setting (think Mahabharata and Ramayana meets the Mughal Empire meets Aladdin and the 1001 Nights). I don't worry so much about absolute authenticity here, just the overall flavor/feel (much as D&D touches upon, but does not emulate, Medieval myth and legend).   For the races, I wanted to keep things relatively simple and more or less try to keep the mechanics as they are, with changes in names and description. So, along with Humans, there would be the Yaksha (who guard the treasures below the mountains and beneath the roots of great trees) in place of the Dwarf, the Nakula (intelligent, 3'-tall mongoose; this is not part of the legends, but my addition) in place of the Halfling, the Asura (once beautiful spirits who were driven to depravity by worldly desires, now reduced to mortal form to learn humility) in place of Tiefling. So far, so good.   The remaining two, the Vanara and Gandharva seemed obvious, but how to have minimal adjustments of the races as presented? The Vanara (monkey-like people noted both for their curiosity and their deep devotion; I have in mind here not only Hanuman but also the Chinese Sun Wukong) I thought to base on the Elf:   +2 Dex Darkvision Climb (equal to ground speed) Proficiency in Acrobatics and Stealth Subraces Forest (think Hanuman and his fellows) +1 Wis Druid cantrip Mask of the Wild Rock (think Sun Wukong) +1 Int Wizard cantrip +1 Skill proficiency   I thought to base the Gandharva (who are beings with a connection to the divine/spirit realms, noted for their beauty, their music and dance, and their skills as warriors) on the Half-elf, with a dose of things from the Elf.   +2 Cha +1 to two other scores Darkvision Fey ancestry Prof. in Performance and in one musical instrument Weapon training (as Elf)   Do these seem like reasonable adjustments?
