I am asking because this prevent the necessity to use Simulacrum cheese for using Wish for any other purpose other than duplicating a spell.

Instead such a solution would require a minor quest to get help from something beyond the power scope of a pc but it is up to the gm to decide what (or if) this is. |

If you blow your ability to cast Wish on something truly spectacular (or stupid) and now you can't cast it, it's going to take a lot to get it back. Personally, I'd say you'd need to have a devine entity, like a powerful angel, devil, god, or abyssal lord grant your ability to cast it again. |

It makes it interesting as it gives the player a timer, they have to make strategic choices as to when to use their wishes plus it also fits in with the whole "I can grant you 3 wishes" thing.
Either implement it right from the start, or only after they fail the role to lose their ability to cast wish. It also makes it a little more worthwhile to take as a spell for non-wizards. |

Also, what about Planar Binding a unicorn since some of them can do Miracles? Genie maybe? |

This is part of that thing i tried to warn about: when you make too strict rules, players find even more broken loop holes than necessary- they over compensate because that's often what's necessary. It's kind of like when you don't have a fly swatter and 5 scenes later you have an acme explosive and look like Wily Coyote. |

Find a ring of three wishes or a luck blade; prove your worthiness to a celestial, fiend, dragon or genie; or convince another mortal spellcaster to risk their own ability to cast wish to restore yours.
The only problem with the last case is, if the other spellcaster does lose their ability to cast wish, what's to stop you from using your restored ability to restore theirs, even if you lose it again afterwards and have to repeat the whole thing recursively if the rolls keep going badly? At that point it feels too cheap. |
| #12shintashiAug 13, 2015 21:49:43 | i examined greater restoration, mind blank, and wish very carefully. this is what i have come to conclude:
1. you could cast clone before you cast wish. if you lose the power to cast wish, due to the physical stress, you can then die, such as by starving yourself to death or jumping off your tower, or repeatedly going on Gygax adventures and checking for traps. When the clone spell kicks in, your old body has the same power to cast wish it did before you suffered the 'stress'.
2. the stress appears to be physical. Therefore, A variant of Greater Restoration should work. I'm not saying Greater Restoration is high enough level to do it. It's only level 5. However, Mind Blank is more powerful than Wish, and it is level 8. Lesser Restoration is level 2. a 3 level difference. Add 3 more levels and you get Mind Blank and Clone.
2nd level, lesser restoration 5th level, greater restoration 8th level, true restoration
I will write up a True Restoration spell in my Spell Thread if no one else does, but clone should do the trick since it is a physical attack/necrotic and stat damage that is causing the wish lock-out. If the wish lock out were instead mental stress, it could be blocked with Mind Blank. When True Restoration is composed, it should act similar to Clone or True Ressurection, except for a living target. The primary difference between True Restoration and Greater Restoration is that Greater Restoration only heals 1 level of exhaustion per casting, while True Restoration would heal all levels of exhaustion, giving it an actual new utility to this game. |
