I am thinking of giving one of my players a Ring of Elemental Command (Earth)... he's a builder and loves Wall of Stone, and I'm wondering how to go about building it in 5e.  I know what it did in 3.x but not 4e (didn't play that edition)... I'm trying to figure out if it would use charges or per day stuff.

Ring of Elemental Command (Earth)

The Ring fo Elemental Command appears to be a Ring of Meld into Earth @ will (self only) until it is attuned.

SECRET

Upon attunement  the ring reveals its further abilities.  It has 7 charges and regenerates it's charges at a rate of 1d4+1 every day at dawn. The ring can cast:

Stone Shape (1 charges)

Wall of Stone (2 charges)

Stoneskin (3 charges)

Passwall (4 charges)

Move Earth (5 charges)

Does this seem reasonable.  I amterrible at pricing things so I'm not sure of the charges costs....

Thanks

Well, the only ring with charges I could find is in the last playtest packet. It only has three charges. A better comparison might be the staff of fire from HotDQ.

The ring of the ram only has 3 charges, but replenishes all of them each day. The staff of fire has 10 charges, and replenishes 1d6+4 each day, but can fail and become useless whereas the ring cannot.

If we take take the Wand of Magic Missiles and Staff of Fire as examples, I'd deduce that spells cost as many charges as their spell level -- Magic Missile is a first level spell, costs one charge; Burning Hands is a first level spell, costs one charge; Fireball is a third level spells, costs three charges; Wall of Fire is a fourth and costs four charges. This holds true for the last playtest items as well, though that could mean nothing.

If you go by those standards, you're looking at a list like this:

Stoneskin - 4 charges

Stone Shape - 4 charges

Passwall - 5 charges

Move Earth - 6 charges

Wall of Stone - 6 charges

I guess you need to pick the power level you want the ring to have. Can the character cost Wall of Stone already? If so, then it's just a free daily casting and not a gigantor bonus; if not, then it's a pretty big deal because it's a 6th level spell that he gets to use without meeting any kind of requirements. Regardless, I'd either give the ring 6 charges that come back daily, or 10 with 1d6+4 that come back daily with the standard 5% chance of turning to ash when you use the last charge. The first prevents them from using it more than once in a day, while the second lets them do so, but comes with a decent risk.

That's my take on it and I hope it helped. If not, feel free to pelt me with sarcasm. :D
