I've been making some items for my latest game, set in space. See if you can guess where they come from (the first one's free).

Plasma Sword: An elegant weapon from a more civilized time, this +1 short sword is a simple handle from which a blade of purple plasma can be emitted. The blade deals 1d8 fire damage instead of 1d6 piercing damage. The handle is covered in arcane runes, which glow faintly purple. One of the runes has been scratched out (this rune used to cause a pang of conscience when the wielder attempted a malevolent act).

Strange Module: This device appears to be a vocal box at first glance, but closer examination reveals a microphone on one side, and a conical speaker on the other. When the correct command word is spoken by an attuned holder of the device, it produces one of a number of effects. Each effect consumes a number of charges. The device has a maximum of 3 charges, which recharge once every 24 standard hours.

1 charge: Chromatic orb (thunder only)

                1 charge: Thunderwave

2 charges: Protection from energy (thunder only)

                2 charges: Shatter

                2 charges: Silence

In order to attune to the module, a creature must be able to cast spells. Use the attuned creature’s spell save DC and spell attack bonus for spell effects produced by the module. A concentration spell cast by the module need not be concentrated on by the wielder, but ends if another concentration spell is cast from the module.

Scrollshot Revolver: This +1 revolver is brown and covered in glowing red runes. When it is loaded with an non-inscribed bullet, a scroll can be read to it, even by a reader that could not cast the scroll. If this is done, the scroll is used up as if cast, but is inscribed on one of the bullets in the gun. When such an inscribed bullet is fired, rather than making a normal attack, the spell is cast as if from the scroll that was inscribed on the bullet. Inscribed bullets can still be used as normal scrolls, as the text fully transfers to the exterior of the bullet, but doing so requires either a successful DC 15 Wisdom (Perception) check, or a magnifying glass or similar aid.

(In my campaign, the revolver is already loaded with grease, inflict wounds, ray of sickness, and phantasmal force.)

Tyrant: This +1 shotgun is inset with teal highlights that glow faintly. It requires no ammunition or loading time, but will not fire except for an attuned wielder. For an attuned wielder, pointing the tyrant at a target provides that target’s creature type, if any, in the form of a telepathic message. The weapon fires a different kind of shot depending on the target:

Aberration, Monstrosity: The target must make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or take an additional 2d6 psychic damage.

Beast, Humanoid: The weapon's base damage becomes 1d6 lightning damage, and if it reduces the target to 0 hit points, the target is knocked unconscious and is stabilized.

Celestial, Plant, Fey: The gun will not function.

Construct, Elemental, Ooze, Giant: The gun functions normally.

Dragon: The weapon's base damage becomes 2d8 damage of an energy type that the target is vulnerable to, if any, or failing that, one that it does not resist (again, if any).

Fiend, Undead: The weapon's base damage becomes 1d10 radiant damage.

Yautja: This +1 chatkcha has the word “Yautja” inscribed on it, which means “hunter” in Goblin. It can guide its own flight, and returns to an attuned wielder’s hand after being thrown. If an attuned wielder has multiple attacks, they make all such attacks before the blade returns as it ricochets and flies between targets. Because of the controlled flight, attacks with the blade made by an attuned wielder do not suffer disadvantage for long range, and they ignore cover that is not total cover.
