Shadow strength drain question

Hi All,

I am wondering how you resolve the shadow's strength drain mechanic when a victim's strength is drained to zero?  I know the victim "dies" if his strength score reaches zero, and then he rises as a shadow 1d4 hours later.  Is there something his fellow party members can do to save him from turning into the shadow?  (assuming they first defeat the shadow that drained the victim?)

Is this something where the death saving throw mechanic comes in?  Do you treat it as some type of curse or disease the has to be removed within 1d4 hours?  I want to give my party a realistic chance of saving him so he doesn't turn into a permanent shadow, but want to make it at least a little challenging to do so.

By the rules, one the character hits 0 STR due to the drain, it dies and becomes a shadwow.  No death saving throws, nothing.

Now, magic can restore the character; in fact, it would be interesting to see how death due to the shadow's Strength drain attack would interact with the revivify or spare the dying spells.

And of course, as the DM, you can decide on an alternate means of saving the character if you wish.

i would believe it's something like those old cartoons where you perform mouth-to-mouth to the shadow until they blow up like a cartoon baloon, then they pop and explode and suddenly in the shadow's place is their old self.
