Hey everyone,
So I've decided that I would like to put all of the information for my campaign on line. I have a campaign guide, game recaps (complete with current in-game date), a list of days passed and activities accomplished by dates in-game, and a list of NPCs so far. I have all of this information on word docs and in e-mails sent to my group, but I really need a place to organize it all. Somewhere that I make updates instead of sending out updated PDF docs through e-mail (I feel it's getting too unorganized). I was looking at Obsidian Portal because it is specifically set up for this kind of thing, but I am not really sure that I like the website format. I mean... on the upside it is FREE which is always great, right?
Anyone use Obsidian Portal to track their campaigns? Or what about other websites to do this? What are your experiences?
I wanted the website to have the main info about the campaign and it's history (which I can update from time to time), I also wanted to include the in-game calendar I created, plus NPC lists with how they met the group and also a game journal. I predict I will want other pages to evolve as well, as the campaign continues (i.e. adding merchant house pages, favorite businesses frequented by the PCs, etc).

I haven't used Obsidian Portal recently, but I used it in the past.
There's nothing wrong with it. I do definitely like the wiki method. Recently I've switched to pbworks because it's more minimalist; I don't like Obsidian Portal's new UI. pbworks is just the text on a white background which is what I prefer. (It's probably possible to change this in Obsidian Portal. I dunno. Like I said, I haven't actually used Obsidian Portal for a few years).
Speaking generically, I think a wiki is a fantastic way to store information about your campaign and disseminate it to your players. As an added bonus, you can have some pages (or all pages if that's the way you roll) that the players can edit themselves; I like to give everyone at minimum their own page for journal-style entries and goals and such.

It works, but it doesn't organize or sort things they way I would like. Actually it doesn't really sort entries much at all.
However, we store a ton of information up there and it is handy.
Check out Epic Words. It's got pretty much everything that OP does. I chose it over OP because I don't have to pay for the scheduler. You do have to pay to upload files, but you can just link from Dropbox or whatever, instead. The people who run the site seems to have disappeared and never make any updates or improvements any more, but it still works fine and there seem to be a lot of people running games on it. I've been using it for quite a while and I'm totally satisfied with it.
OP looks prettier but I found it harder to use. It seems to really put a lot of stress on my piece of crap computer, too.
Recently, I have switched to using the free stuff for Office 360. OneNote is a lot easier for the members that are either tech challenged and the practiced tech challenged. There is too much overhead to using obisdian portal unless your tagetting a larger audience than just your play group.
I know one of the members of my meetup wins or is runner up for best campaign every year, but it requires an ascended account and some skill at style sheets to get OP into a worthwhile state.
