#1 Reptyval Dec 03, 2014 15:34:03	My friends and I are about to start playing D&D 5th edition with the starter kit. I've gotten a few questions like "The pre-generated character sheet says I use a longbow and greatsword with leather armor. I want to eventually have a greataxe and plate armor, can I do that?" I don't know. The pre-generated sheets have most of the fields filled out already.. how do we make changes? I've never played D&D before, so a better question would be are players able to get a new sword/armor? Or are you stuck with whatever you started with?   TL;DR All the pre-generated character sheets in the starter edition are already filled out, but my players will want new weapons eventually. How are we going to do that when their old gear is permanently on their sheet?
#2 pukunui Dec 03, 2014 16:03:31	The Starter Set comes with a blank sheet you can photocopy. The same blank character sheet is available for download as a pdf on the D&D website. I believe there's also a form fillable version.   You can hand out the pregen sheets to start with, and then when the PCs level up, the players can choose to amend the pregen sheet or take a blank sheet and copy everything in by hand (or on the computer), including any level-up and/or gear changes.
#3 Ath-kethin Dec 03, 2014 17:33:32	To expand on pukunui's answer: Yes,characters can get new or different weapons and/or armor. The starting equipment with the pregens is just to get you going. You can use the blank character sheet to make changes or just make out and write over what's on the filled out ones. In addition to the character sheet, on the D&D website you can also find a Basic Player's Handbook. This PDF includes everything you need to make entirely new characters, including an equipment list.
