teleportation circle trap help

So my players built a wooden contraption on top of a teleportation circle.  It's a wood frame with a bunch of spears attached to it, where the spears point down toward the circle.  What happens when someone tries to teleport to this circle? any ideas? thanks!

Doesnt work. Teleportation is a very delicate thing, and with a Set circle, some one trying to use it cordinates to arrive there will just not travel. BBEG gets away for another adventure (another couple regular games before you run into him again). But thats just me, you could decide that they teleport into the frame of spears.

Directly from the spell description

Any creature that enters the portal instantly appears within 5 feet of the destination circle or in the nearest unoccupied space if that space is occupied.

How big is the contraption?  How high up are the spears?  I can just see a bunch of Gnomes popping in, looking around, saying "What awful decorations," and walking off.
