Obviously I am thinking primarily of Wizards but some of these might be adapted to other classes. These do draw upon class features of other classes such as Sorcerer and Evoker but the costs for these are built into the spell.
Three examples.
Secret Spell Level 2 Transmutation Casting Time: 1 Bonus Action Range: Self Components: None (Thought Activated) Duration: Until the end of the casters current turn This spell is somewhat unique in that it allows for another spell to be cast just after it in the casters own current turn. If no subsequent spell is cast then this spell is wasted. It allows the subsequent spell, which must be of second level or lower, to be cast without any verbal or somatic or non-expensive material components. Any visual or other sensory effects of the spell are not concealed – a fireball will still be seen to streak from the caster to its target and explode with a flash and a bang. At Higher Levels: This spell may be cast with a higher level spell slot – it will always only affect a single spell or cantrip of its own (modified) level or lower.
Biased Lightning strike 4th-level Evocation Casting Time: 1 action Range: 150’ Components: V, S, M Duration: Instantaneous A vertical column of lightning crackles down from the sky to strike a location you specify. Each creature in a 15-foot-radius, 60-foot-high cylinder centred on a point within range must make a Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 8d6 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The caster may (optionally) choose for one target within the spells area of effect not to be struck. At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, the lightning damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 4th and the caster may (optionally) omit one additional target within the area of effect from being struck.
Missile Chain 4th-level Evocation Casting Time: 1 action Range: 120’ Components: V, S Duration: Instantaneous You create five Magic Missiles that strike a target of your choice that you can see within range. These missiles then continue on to strike a second and then a third target before dissipating. Each new target must be within 30 feet of the previous one. At Higher Levels: This spell may be cast with a higher level spell slot with one additional missile for each slot above 4th. |

| (Reply to #2)UmbraCarmen | I agree this is RAW and as the rules actually intend. Hence the remark in the description about the spell operating unusually. Remember though that D&D is an exception based rules system. It is for the DM to allow (or not) the exception that this spell specifies. I am fine with this as effectively you have to use two spell slots instead of one to make this work - this is the specified cost. For example to use a Fireball in a zone of silence you need two third level slots not just one. To cast Suggestion on someone without anyone realising a spell has been cast two 2nd level spell slots instead of one. It is this additonal cost that justifies borrowing from another classes powers IMO. The rules breach is a very specific and narrowly defined one that as a DM balancing power and effect for good gameplay I am personally fine with.
