| #1ShamonMay 14, 2015 18:19:17 | Hi All, Simple question but not sure how to word it thus my attempts at searching have failed. Newbie DM. Typical group around paper table top map.
Im not good at keeping it straight in my head when theres like 6 or more.
I thought maybe glue a coloured token on the mini base but thats a bit permanent or maybe a small round coloured sticker?
Ideas? |

So it's not Bandit A, B, C, & D.
Its "Dank David, Long Tom, the Rank Ruffian, and Double Daggers."
You do that, and the players will remember who they're attacking and getting hit by. |
| #3ShamonMay 14, 2015 19:00:22 | Thx Brad, so how would you know that the bandit on a particular square is "Dank David". He (the miniature) looks like all the others and I forget which one is which . I agree giving them names, is better than calling them red, purple or A B etc. But I still have to "token" that name against a specific miniature. Especially once they start moving around. |
| #4bawylieMay 14, 2015 19:34:33 | Couple things you can do is write their names on scratch paper and make each player name whom they Attack.
Or you can use mini post it notes and stick them near the miniatures and track the damage there.
If your battlemap is paper or wet erase, track the HP on the mat directly.
I use post its behind my DM screen. |

Craft stores have a lot of doodads that are great for gaming. Some of it's overpriced, though, so watch out. |
| #6ShamonMay 14, 2015 20:10:29 | thx guys, My wife just said tie coloured thread around their neck...bandits with scarves :lol |
| #7AaronOfBarbariaMay 14, 2015 20:48:13 | I intentionally engineered the situation so that I never have two minis you can't tell apart on the map - they are either numbered Paizo pawns, or the same mini sculpt painted differently (for example, I have 5 different sculpts for orcs, with one set each having skintones of red, yellow, grey, and green). In the past before I had such a collection of minis, or when I need lots of creatures represented, I use different colored dice set with a different facing number - so 30 goblins could be 5 different colors of sets of 6d6, each set to a different number. |
| #8ZalbarthemadMay 14, 2015 20:58:08 | On the rare occassion that we play tabletop we take some masking tape, write a number on it and paste it to the base. |
| #9CCSMay 14, 2015 21:12:41 | I have a plastic pencil box full of small metal L brackets that I've put #d green sticker dots on. A couple of the brackets have yellow/blue/red dots instead & get used for leaders etc. Then I just stick the minis on them using sticky tac (that blue putty you hang posters with). I think I have maybe $5 invested in this ID system? |
