WereGiraffes

So one of my newest players is a Wizard that is obsessed with Giraffes. One of her long term goals is to become the queen of the Weregiraffes. It is completely out of left field and very strange, but I love it. What would you guys suggest be stats/traits/actions of such a creature. I already know how I am going to get them into the game, just would love some input on a template.

Thanks for any help in advance.

I would say your best bet would be to look at the other were-animals in the monster manual and comapare stats. Treat it like you were creating a character. Giraffes might not be high on strength but have good charisma and intelligence. Ultimately its what ever you want to do with in reason.

Maybe the WereG will get an additional head when one is chopped off? Weird enough.

Some more. WereG

-large creature.

-has reach of 2 squares (10').

-Grapple with twisting neck.

-Do not make a sound like under a Silence effect.

-can enter deep water with head over surface.

Silence and a neck grapple?

Well, giraffes are silent creatures, so I presume they won't make any noise as if under a silence spell. How this affect the WereG in the game I wouldn't know.

I just imagine the WereG can snake its long neck around, so it can use it to grapple someone.

My suggestion: Have this happen in the last session, or towards the end. That way whatever the PC becomes won't effect the overall story. And you don't have to be super specific about abilities or adjustments. And it also won't "outshine" other players. The giraffe player gets the reward, and no one suffers for it (well, not necessarily!). Plus, who knows, that sounds like a solid NPC to have come back at a later date! My table and I love using old characters as NPCs, no matter who is DM-ing or playing!

It's like the Deck of Many Things. I love that little bugger, but he's always an end-cap. Either at the VERY end, or in the last session, so no matter what happens, it won't make life terrible for me in the future.

Anyway, give them a solid headbutt. I mean, have you SEEN Giraffes fighting one-another? It's nuts...

Giraffes beat each other to death with their neck and those tiny horn things, and are awfully fast when they want to get going.

Slam attack that has reach, good spead, not sure what stats, but for a template I would say you just need to worry about hybrid form,

That is an interesting request.

First, I would like to state that lycanthropes are traditionally carnivorous or omnivorous. In the MM, you have bear, boar, rat, tiger, wolf. All but the tiger are omnivores and even the tiger eats occasional plant matter for fiber.

That being said, one of the most memorable recurring themes in one of my friend's games were wererabbits. Rabbits are typically herbivores although exceptions exist (arctic hare is omnivorous, for example). Where they came from was never discussed with me. He also had their human form as very, very short typically with spears so I assume perhaps this was it's own unique race.

Anyways, as long as your players are down with something like a were-giraffe, more power to you. If one of those existed in my games, it certainly would have been a bizarre experiment from a wizard or the like. That's not more bizarre than an owl-bear, IMO.

It is going to end up being her bizarre experiment. As far as I can tell she does not want to become one, but to discover them and rule over a group as their queen. I do not see them as being very effective as a "Monster" but I am sure most people would not want to be bitten by one and jon their ranks. Maybe I can just do the Hybrid form as mostly cosmetic with very little mechanical impact. As far as the strangeness goes, her focus is a small giraffe plush type doll. All her spells are Giraffe themed. As a side not, the giraffe obsession is the Players as well as the PC's.

Challenge accepted. Note, it is exceedingly rare to contract the weregiraffe form of lycanthropy, as they do not normally bite.

(edit: CR compared to statistics might not be balanced, but whatever. Love the picture Cowleymen!)

Does she want to become the new imguraffe mascot for imgur? I hope she spends her time using illusions to create images of cats and random memes. Maybe some divination magic to see what cat illusions other wizards are making.

Thanks a lot Nevvur, that looks great. She is very new to DnD and I hope this will atleast let her see that you can do pretty much anything in game, within some reason. She seems to be enjoying it so far. Her first time playing was a couple of weeks before she joined my group and her last DM said No to pretty much everything she wanted to do. I forsee her and the rest of the party being around lvl 10 when this becomes an full fledge option. They are currently between lvls 2-4 with 8 players. Though I normaly have 6 at the table at a time.

Sure thing. Glad to hear you saved her from a naysayer DM. Sounds like a huge group. Even six is bigger than I prefer. Good luck managing it!

Fun idea. You'll have to let us know how it works out when they get to the point that it can be implemented.

Another idea: Druid (particularly Moon Druid)

That's sorta my "go-to" for a reskinned Lycanthrope of any kind. Maybe not as authentic as you (or she) may like, but! It's a start! I mean, Druids are already kinda Wizardy...

Don't forget to add the following to the hybrid and beast forms:

Damage Vulnerabilities: Vorpal Weapons

I mean, that's A LOT of neck to worry about...
