| #1CFKMay 17, 2015 23:58:16 | So I just wanted to recap our session from last night. In my opinion, one of the craziest as of yet.
Warning: Contains Horde of the Dragon Queen spoilers!!! SPOILER BLOCK
So the party was exploring the castle from episode 6. After 2 battles where they gave little room for interaction and flew into combat, I gave them a 4th chance of exploring it peacefully. If someone would have asked, the Bullywugs and lizardmen where combatting each other. After exploring the "left side" they found the passage to the underground dungeon. Some discussion came on the plan, when most characters agreed that they would go down, take a sneak peak, explore one, maybe two chambers and head back to see what information the castle could still provide them! The only "real" information they had found was one dim-witted janitor boy who was cleaning out chambers, who, on unrelated note, was the cause of the party members killing each other by sheer force of roleplay!
So the members went down.
Exploring the first chamber, nothing happened. Exploring the next, nothing. The third, they encountered 2 bullywugs who "ordered" them to leave, and they did.
All was well untill they encountered "king" Splattergoo (Yes, they ventured way past the 2, maybe 3 chamber exploration). Very wise, they did not kill him but knocked him out cold. Very unwise, they discussed it mid-combat in front of him...
After the combat, the king was tied up and, him being still out cold, checked his room. When finding a chest, the thief of the party checked it and found the trap, bottles-on-ceiling included. The party got wet feet and left the room to discuss the next steps they could take...
When the barbarian, in all his good roleplay, got fed up of waiting and rushed in to open the box. And fail his saving throw.
I could tell you all how that all went, but between almost killing 1 party member and running to the lake, he got knocked unconscious by the dwarven fighter...
They dragged the king and unconscious party members to area 13. The one with the gate they missed by a hair un the previouse time, and starterd questioning the king with the full force of strength one could give a helpless, tied up character. Nothing wrong there. Untill the questioning character asked "where do they take the goods?!?!" and said to kill him if he didn't tell... The conversation went a little like this: King Splattergoo: "Well, they take it here! but i'm never allowed here. They say his one word and POOF, all is gone!" Character: "What word?" Splattergoo: "I won't tell you, bad things will happen when I tell you" Character: "I don't care, if you don't tell me, we'll kill you!" Splattergoo: "Are you sure? Bad things will happen!!!" Character: "Yes, now tell me!" Splattergoo: "Very well... Don't say I didn't warn you... the word was *Incert code word here that I didn't remember*"
A portal showed up and 2 out of 4 characters where send to chapter 7... The other 2 characters where spooked but eventually followed, taking Splattergoo with them, killing him with a well placed barbarian dropkick when exiting the portal...
So... the hunting lodge doomed in front of them... They all decided to just "sneak" around it (Sneak being sarcastic, they made more noice than an umber hulk discovering Ipecac) but after listening at the stables thinking "O hell no...." and ventured into the forest for a short rest...
Unfortunatly, so where a troll hunting party... Yes, the party was to low of a level for chapter 7, yes they where one woman short, but no... Even with all 5 members and one level higher, they stood no chance... After the dwarven fighter and halfling barby went down, the thief took off in full speed. The warlock casted invisibillity and hid in a tree. Having done just 9 (?!?!) points of damage to one of the trolls, it was a slaughterfest worthy of called house 5...
The thief ran into the lodge, to be slain by a "statue who started biting me!" in the main hall... At that moment I decided to call it a night...
Thank Bahamut I have a full week to take a look on how I'm going to correct all this... 3 members down. One hiding. Another who missed so many sessions she plays a level 3 paladin in (now) chapter 7...
What I learned from all this, when a party rush though an adventure like this, throw (Yes I said Throw) EXP there way... Maybe they stand a chance next time...
(Personal philosophy: Only if characters really crew up they can be killed...) |

My group also went through the teleportal at different times. Some met the Wizard and did very well, some (including me) got curbstomped, some successfully hid in the forest.
We took the whole next session trying to get the party back together without several members killing each other.

The party went through the portal in 3 times, but not a minute apart. But because i'm a fan of the 90's show "sliders", in my view if you exit a portal at seperate times, you crash and hurt the person you crash into :P
Last night I went through the chapter one more time, and I think I have a pretty good idea of how to make sure the party gets back together and alive. Lets just say a certain lady will "Make you an offer you can't refuse!". And if that fails, i'll have some horse heads thrown in some beds... metaphorically speaking ofcourse!
