The answer to this question is: Ask your DM because it is dependent upon how prominent magic items are meant to be in the setting being run, and there is no default specific price for any magic item because the ability to be able to purchase a magical item not listed in the PHB is an optional rule.

That said, you can find a range of suggested prices on page 135 of the DMG, accompanied by a suggestion that consumables cost half as much as a permanent item of the same rarity.

yes i know that you cannot buy or sell magic items when you play RAW

but consumables would be the more "common to buy" stuff i think

and a potion of vitality would then cost 2.500 gold -25.000 gold?

this it the DM section so: if a player (maybe a berserk barbarian) would ask you: hey is there any possibility to buy a potion of vitality

whats your DM answer? and whats the price?

or the price for a scroll?

Consumables aren't necessarly more common, though. A potion of vitality is still Rare - just less expensive than other rare items because it's consumable.

The default answer in most games is that no, potions of vitality aren't for sale. Only common potions (and in some cases, only potions of healing) are available for sale without some great ordeal.

There isn't a set standard for a magic item economy at all. Scrolls, and anything more than potions of healing, aren't available for purchase by default. You'll need to come up with your own rules for this.

I've been working on my own, assuming Eberron's standards, but it's not complete, so I can't share it.

Well you know the "offical advice" from the DMG:  2.500 gold -25.000 gold

Although you seem to be obviously unsatified with this advice, and it seems a common gripe that the suggested cost of consumable magical items are too high.

The question is more: What do you want in your game? What function does the change serve?

In this case it's less a question about consumables in general and about the specific case of a Berserk Barbarian wanting to have access to a consumable that allows them to overcome the Exhaustion penalty of Frenzy (which is alot harder than mere HP damage).

How much money does the Barbarian have, how much are you planning at throwing at players and are you happy with them having access to a supply of consumables to be able to undo exhaustion penalties for frenzy?

Would they want a far cheaper consumable that removes exhaustion that doen't give the other benefits of the Potion of Vitality?

Would you want a consumable that removes a set amount of exhaustion rather than all?

im fine with the prices for permanent items!

but 5.000 GP for 1 Potion RAW?

ok its very rare so the price can be 5.001-50.000 but you should (if the DM allows to buy magic stuff) better buy a Rare permanent Item for 501-5.000 then a one-use item

im the DM in my round (Fight Tiamat)

i dont want to houserule the magic item value, so your DM advice is to take 5.000 GP for a Very Rare consumable to stay RAW

the prices for common and uncommon consumables are fine

healing potion 4w4+4 for 101-500 GP

hmm i dont feel satisfied =) i could houserule it, but im stricktly against it because if i soften one thing then i open the door for more houserules

Perhaps the price has been driven up by all the adventurer's who keep drinking/trying to drink them?

Once they pass 4th level or so, is there really any adventuring supplies they need to spend money on except consumables?

Let them be pricey; it gives the players who have no interest in "realm management" something to do with their money.
