Say my barbarian or paladin PC chooses to ride the party Druid into combat, and has a lance. The rider has his own attack on his turn, obviously, but if the Druid charges on his turn, why COULDN'T the rider couch the lance and get another attack? Seems like giving up his own movement is a small price to pay, but I'm finding it hard to reason why I should rule against this scenario. |

If it seems to be obviously over powered, start working on ways to limit it. Personally, since the Druid's the one moving and the Barbarian/Pally is the one using him as a mount, I would rule that the rider would have to ready his attack action to occur when the druid moved into range. Or, rather, that they'd both roll initiative normally, but they would both act at the same time on the slower turn order rolled. For instance, there's a party of a Fighter, Barbarian, Druid, and Wizard. The Druid and Barbarian charge in as a mount/rider. They roll initiative; the druid rolling a 15 and the Barbarian rolling a 12. I would rule that they would both take the 12 as their Initiative order, and the Druid would always act first. That way, if they want to move as a single unit, they're going to be a single unit, but they're going to pay the price of moving as a unit slowly. |
