It's almost as bad of a decision as 4E was.

Agreed.  It's a bad move.  You'd think the crazy success that 5e has been would cover $20 overhead in server costs it takes to keep these forums up and running.

I visit these forums on a near daily basis, and I'm constantly inspired by the ideas people have.  Many thoughts and ideas people have made here have made their way into my games.  Additionally, any questions I've had have been met with positive responses that have made sense, and I've adjusted me game because of those responses.

Its doing so well that they have downsized staff considerably, hardly put out supplimental material, and shut down the online tools..

So, I finally get my Forum account fixed so I can login and I see this post.  Were did this come from and how do we protest this happening?

Im in the who gives a rat's butt club concerning WoTC having it's own forurm.  From what I've seen, most people frequent other boards since I see the same screen names on them.  WoTC doesn't moderate the forums and don't post threads concerning new game information (that I've seen but I don't click through every section).  I would be interested in new players feedback on if they do a search, do they go to the WoTC forum, FB, other forums, etc to see where they go for information.

The one plus for me that the forum is being closed is that it's 1 less location (ie frustration) that I have to read unintelligent dribble from people posting crud like 5e isn't selling well for what ever BS reason that might fill out their sentence structure....like in this thread in posts 6 and 11.

I love the slow release philosphy, but sometimes I wonder at it.  If it's lucrative, why are there not more supporting books being published?  I would love to see some books like Open Grave, Demonomicon, The Plane Below, Manual of the Planes, Adventurers Vault, additional Monster Manuals.  I hated 4e with a passion, but they did put out some decent sourcebook material, especially some of the later items, like Vor Rukoth and Hammerfast.  Those were cool sourcebooks, that I still pillage for material.  Just gotta convert it to 5, which isn't all that difficult.  Heck, I'm pulling dungeons out of the 4e Tomb of Horrors right now (didn't like the module per say, but filled with cool individual dungeons and adveture concepts).  Sourcebooks, settings, adventure sites and monster manuals would be much appreciated, even at 1 book a quarter.

On, and just to weigh in, I think it sucks this forum is shutting down.  I really don't want to go find another site.  I like this one just fine enough <heavy sigh>.

The Magic forums are closing too. I don't think it has anything to do with the success or failure of D&D.

I certainly ****ing hope they have a plan for some sort of replacement.  It's egregiously stupid to not have any way for your player base and community to talk to each other about the game, shareing ideas, and rules suggestions and help.
