| #1johnnyarkhamJun 24, 2008 20:46:39 | Is there a place out here on the web that still caters to 3rd edition Eberron? I'm not a 4ed hater or anything, I just don't plan on changing over until later in the year or next year for a variety of reasons. I love Eberron, but it seems that this forum has become all about 4e and/or conversions and the like. I'm kind of new to the setting and still want to discuss some things that are prolly 'ol hat at this point. Any forum suggestions? ENWorld? Something else? |
| #2That_Blasted_SomoflangeJun 24, 2008 21:51:39 | This forum is still viable for 3e. Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the 4e fans.. though I've kept my 3e Eberron books, I'm only going to run in 4e now. But, there can still be lots of fluff heavy threads that can work for both editions. There is going to be a proliferation of 4e stuff because it is new, and lets be honest, there is a LOT of time till any Eberron stuff comes out for 4e (and indirectly 3e) except for any dungeon/dragon articles. |
| #3skrap-sanJun 25, 2008 3:16:03 | I have seen nothing so far that indicates that people wont get help on a 3rd ed question in here. Actually it might be a welcome change from all the 4th ed conversions going on. |
| #4johnnyarkhamJun 25, 2008 7:23:17 | Actually it might be a welcome change from all the 4th ed conversions going on. That's primarily what prompted my query. I don't want to ask questions about, for example, my desire to run Eyes of the Lich Queen, and get lost amidst a flurry of Dragonborn and 'Wild Caster' references ![]() Just wanna make sure there's still room and interest in discussing the setting w/out assuming a 4e connection. |
| #5EdymnionJun 25, 2008 17:17:01 | Agreed. And its a problem that will only get worse as time goes on. It doesn't matter how much people, even Keith, say this board is going to be for Eberron in general, it won't happen that way. This will be a D&D 4e Eberron board, with other systems not getting discussed. |
| #6johnnyarkhamJun 25, 2008 17:58:58 | Edymnion, do you know of any other online communities where Eberron discussion is not currently so very 'edition specific'? Thanks so much |
| #7EdymnionJun 25, 2008 19:33:47 | Edymnion, do you know of any other online communities where Eberron discussion is not currently so very 'edition specific'? Lol, man, if I knew of a 3e Eberron haven, you think I'd still be swinging by here every so often? :P If you find one though, sign me up. |
| #8skyodinJun 25, 2008 19:35:47 | That's primarily what prompted my query. I don't want to ask questions about, for example, my desire to run Eyes of the Lich Queen, and get lost amidst a flurry of Dragonborn and 'Wild Caster' references Just specify that you are playing 3E in your post or its title. There will be no confusion then, and people will be happy to talk to you about Eyes of the Lich Queen. I think there is still plenty of interest in talking about Eberron with no 4E connection. |
| #9JohnLynchJun 25, 2008 19:42:11 | This will be a D&D 4e Eberron board, with other systems not getting discussed. If the fans of other systems leave, then yes it will become that. |
| #10EdymnionJun 25, 2008 19:52:40 | If the fans of other systems leave, then yes it will become that. Its the slippery slope. Same thing I've been talking about for other things for years. Each step towards an undesirable goal makes the next step easier and more likely to happen. 4e threads make 3e players want to post here less. Less 3e posts mean the ratio of 4e posts increase. The more 4e posts you get, the more you drive away the 3e people. And it spirals down until you get the the bottom, where the board is entirely 4e. But, from my experience, people on the boards here don't believe in slippery slopes. Its always "Oh, this isn't going to do anything bad", and by the time they realize something is wrong, its already too late. |

That said, it's not like the majority of people here are going to agree that Fourth Edition discussion dominating the forum is a bad thing, because most people prefer Fourth Edition. |

Which baffles me, as that's precisely what they did before the coming of 4th edition. One could always enjoy their niche system or CS by simply sticking to those forums. most people prefer Fourth Edition. That's seems like a bit of a blanket statement to me. Would it not be more accurate to say that the majority of those who continue to post have ceased to complain, as there's no point in doing so? lol Silence does not always equal satisfaction. Thar be wisdom in thar somewhere ;) Just specify that you are playing 3E in your post or its title. There will be no confusion then Now that makes good sense. The proliferation of '4e' in thread titles is what prompted this, so why not simply take the same tack? Thanks SkyOdin! |
| #13igotsmeakabobJun 26, 2008 9:57:17 | In an ideal world, Wizards of the Coast would maintain a separate forum for the Third Edition versions of various things, including game worlds; they've made it clear they're not interested in doing that, which is a shame. Not so much Wizards as one particular Wizards employee, who seems to have been annoying a number of forum regulars ever since he came in. I'm not even sure if Wizards really pays attention to what goes on in the forums. Yeah, it'd be frellin'/frakkin' great if we could get a separate forum, but seeing as how our five or six forums have been condensed down into one and probably won't even be split into two, I doubt we'll get anything near the ideal. |
| #14mhacdebhandiaJun 28, 2008 0:52:05 | Now that makes good sense. The proliferation of '4e' in thread titles is what prompted this, so why not simply take the same tack? Yeah, I strongly advise taking a cue from the way RPG.Net does it - just add [3E] or [4E] to your subject line. I'll do my part to not alienate Third Edition types by making sure I include [4E] if it's an edition specific thread I'm starting. ![]() |
