So how has everyone been handling 4E Halflings and their mounts?

I had them set up with some drakes for a while, though with the giant lizards from the Adventurer's Vault look nice.

What I'm wondering, though, and maybe Hellcow could shed light on this, is: what mounts do Talenta halflings ride, especially since the 4E Monster Manual has made a powerful effort to move away from having the word "dinosaur" anywhere?

Essentially, I'm reflavoring some giant lizards or drakes until 4E Eberron comes out... should I be reflavoring to call them "Dinosaurs" or "Behemoths" or "Giant lizards" or what? I'd hate to pick up Eberron books next year, and have the wrong name stuck in everyone's heads, and have to admit to being wrong ;)

well i think that they're tryin' to get away from the "dinosaur" think because they aren't tryin' to immulate reality. so i'd say that now the halflings ride drakes and hunt behemoth. the concept is the same but the flavor of fantasy is stronger. though my question is will the halflings have to ride large mounts or well there be an exception for the clawfeet and the fastieth? i hope so and as of now if i run an eberron game, i'm house rulin' it. i would do the same for the official game rules but i have very picky players.(sigh)
i like the idea of the halflings havin' there own little viscious lizards of mounts.

that's my 2 crown's worth anyway. Peace.

Well personally I will just go with what the original ECS said. They ride dinosaurs, and that's it. I'll just have to reflavor some monsters. I know that core D&D has almost totally wiped the dinosaurs of the map, but as everyone will start telling you soon, core isn't Eberron.

Well, it'd be more accurate to say "If it exists in Dungeons and Dragons, there's a place for it in Eberron."

And, unfortunately, Dungeons and Dragons does not have any dinosaurs =P

Are you really that hung up on the name? Even if they're not called dinosaurs in the Monster Manual, the macetail behemoth and bloodspike behemoth are still dinosaurs.

If it ever comes up in a game I'm running, I'll just use whatever monster stats are the most interesting for an enemy, or whatever monster stats are most balanced for a PC's mount. For instance, a while back I was running a 4e game and the PCs encountered a pack of wolves. Some of the wolves used hyena stats instead, because I thought it would be boring if every monster in the fight had the same stats.

Edit: Not to mention, a tribal talenta halfling is more likely to call her mount a clawfoot than a dinosaur.
