| #1rainbowcannonJul 20, 2008 9:03:10 | I pressed my luck in a different forum but didnt get any responses, so I hope to have better luck here. I am a pretty new DM and my players are coming dangerously close to finishing up KOTS in Eberron and I wanted to be ready with Thunderspire Labyrinth in eberron as well. So this is my first attempt at converting anything into Eberron, if you have ideas on how to make the conversion better please share. Thanks. Thunderspire Labyrinth in Eberron Where in Khorvaire is Thunderspire? Thunderspire is located in Midwestern Lhazaar Principalities in the Hoarfrost Mountains. The entrance to the Thunderspire is about 200 miles southwest of Tantamar. Baphomet, Yeenoghu, Vecna and Asmodeous in Eberron? Baphomet and Yeenoghu, like other demons, were sealed in Khyber. Their parts of the adventure remain unchanged. Vecna on the other hand is replaced by The Keeper, and any mention of Vecna in the adventure should be changed. Asmodeous shows up once in the adventure as Murkelmore’s patron deity. In Eberron Murkelmore is a paladin of The Mockery. The Other Interests When a nefarious organization or secret society is hatching a plan, another one, two, or thee groups are lurking somewhere in the shadows, making plans of their own. The Blood of Vol: The Mages of Saruun are in large part agents of the Emerald Claw working to recover treasures and magic items for Vol. Paldemar has gone rogue and has taken his knowledge of Vol and the Emerald Claw with him. The Mages fear that if Paldemar is not disposed of, he may leak the information he has along with the riches he has stolen. If proof of the Emerald Claw’s connection to Vol is leaked from the Mages, the Blood of Vol will be forced to destroy them to prevent any further damage to either organization. The Mages of Saruun ask the adventurers to dispose of Paldemar in order to preserve their order. Lords of Xoriat: Paldemar did not actually go rogue, his family is being held by Vol to ensure his cooperation, just like they keep insurance from every one of their members who posses any real knowledge of its workings. Instead Paldemar in his search for ancient magic for the Emerald Claw found the Tower of Mystery and within was made into a Thrall by a mindflayer named Threeknyu in the employ of the Daelkyr, The Master of Silence (The main villain in the Dragon Below book series). After dominating Paldemar Threeknyu set out to continue his work to free the Lord of Silence in the Pyramid of Shadows, leaving Paldemar to continue his work to disband the influence of the Emerald Claw in the Thunderspire while hoping to find some magic items within their treasures that will help him free the Lord of Silence. The Blood Reavers: The Reavers in Thunderspire are a portion of clan Rhukaan Tash from Darguun who were sent here to expand their clan business. They recently brought in a shipment of slaves from Winterhaven. The Bronze Warders: Describe these Minotaur guards as oversized constructs that bear a striking resemblance to warforges, but they lack any form of sentience. These constructs originated in Xendrik created by the giants, but have since been imported here to help the Mages of Saruun keep the order in the Thunderspire. Hooks: If you are planning to run Thunderspire Labyrinth as the follow up to Keep on the Shadowfell change the hooks in Thunderspire to the following: Once the adventurers exit the keep describe to them that they see an airship take off to the west. Once they reach Winterhaven has Lord Padriag tell them that the airship took off after kidnapping several villagers from the countryside, and one of the people they took was Sister Linora. He describes that the Kidnappers where hobgoblins. (At this point the players should realize these are the bloodreavers) Padriag asks the party to rescue the good people of Winterhaven. If you used Valthrun as an enemy and the party has dispatched him, have Padriag offer Valthrun’s tower to them as payment for keeping Winterhaven safe. Padriag also doesn’t know anything about Thunderspire as it is so far away, he asks around for anyone who may know anything about the place. Once the party agrees to save the kidnapped people, have Bairwin approach them about hearing that they needed to know where the Thunderspire was located, he reveals that he knows where it is but that will only divulge the information if they promise to conduct a little business transaction for him. Here you can use the trade mission hook mentioned in KOTS. NPCs The Halfmoons: Rendil’s family possesses an iron defender in the inn that keeps guard, while Rendil himself posses the Mark of Hospitality. Surina: She is now a Warforged. Orontor: Bears the symbol of the Emerald Claw. Monters: Bronze Warders: Are now large mindless Warforged with great axes for arms. Enigma of Vecna: Is an Enigma of The Keeper. Norkers: Describe all Norkers as Dolgrims. Tieflings: Describe them as Shifters. Paldemar: Describe him as having a blank stare, as though not acting of his own accord. He also has wounds on his head that indicate that a mindflayer has burrowed into his brain. He bears the symbol of the Emerald Claw. |
| #2rainbowcannonJul 21, 2008 11:52:44 | So I made some changes to the original draft and converted The Seven-Pillard hall and the npcs as well. Also does anyone know when dungeon plans to release their conversion of H2? I'd rather use their conversion if it comes out in time for me to use. Vecna on the other hand is no longer part of the adventure, Enigmas of Vecna are now Mad Acolytes, humanoids with tentacles coming out of their mouths and eye sockets. The Blood of Vol: Paldemar is an agent of Vol who was undercover gathering information on any discoveries the mages of Saruun make and keeping an eye out for any artifacts that could be valuable to the blood of Vol. He has recently gone rogue and the mages have uncovered him as an agent of the Blood of Vol. The Mages fear that if Paldemar is not disposed of, he may leak the information he has along with the riches he has stolen. The Mages of Saruun ask the adventurers to dispose of Paldemar in order to preserve their order. Lords of Xoriat: Paldemar did not actually go rogue from the mages of Saruun, his assignment was to remain undercover. Instead Paldemar in his search for ancient magic for the Blood of Vol found the Tower of Mystery and within was made into a Thrall by a mindflayer named Threeknyu in the employ of a Daelkyr, The Master of Silence (The main villain in the Dragon Below book series). This will lead to having three factions fighting each other in the pyramid of shadows, Threeknyu working for The Master of Silence, Paldemar recovered and given a second chance by Vol to destroy Threeknyu and clean up his mess, and the PCs who by now Vol has heard of their killingof Kalarel. It will be a three way fight to the finish. | #4darkwarlockJul 16, 2009 15:49:20 | Hi, Rainbowcannon. I know it's been quite some time since you posted this, but I am just about to run a converted-to-Eberron TL myself and am using your notes as a starting point. I wonder if you have anything to add a year later, further suggestions, what worked or didn't work so well in play, etc. I also wonder if you continued the campaign with the other published adventures (Pyramid of Shadows, etc.) and how you tied them in to the setting. Hope your game is still on and exciting! |
| #5darkwarlockJul 17, 2009 11:22:01 | Of course, I also welcome input from others! Have any of you made use of the published WotC adventures in Eberron? What changes have you made? How have you tied them together in a more cohesive way? What plot elements, layers of complexity, etc. have you added to integrate the adventures into the setting? |
