#1 charlemegne Feb 16, 2012 15:56:55	For my campaign  I am making some background ideas for my players and I came up with one, since they will be starting out on the island of Lorghalan I am going to provide the option were they were shipwrecked in an airship crash during a freak storm. I already know who caused this (a very ancient blue dragon) and were they were going : Dreadhold. My question is why would young children or  between the ages of 2-3 be sent to Dreadhold ? obviously it would be different for Wilden,Shardminds and Warforged. My only idea so far is that it probably has something to do with the Chamber, The Lords of Dust (yes that  part was a delibirate invitation for Ogiwan) and the last War.
#2 Ogiwan Feb 16, 2012 16:10:36	Inviting me just by mentioning the Lords of Dust? Meh, I guess it works. The thing is that Khorvaire has capital punishment, so the question is why Dreadhold exists. Simply put, its to hold prisoners too risky (or valuble) to kill, but too dangerous to let free. For example, Kaius (I) has (the real) Kaius (III) locked up in Dreadhold in a Man-In-The-Iron-Mask sort of way. If Kaius (I) bites it, Kaius (III) comes out and Karrnath is fine and has a monarch. If Kaius (I) did kill off his grandson, and was in turn killed,  Karrnath would have to figure out which heir to use. One of the siblings....? Anyways. Why would a young child be sent to Dreadhold? Probably as exceptionally mean and secure leverage against someone. Either that, or the child is something like the intelligence of the three greatest wizards of all time in one body. Ain't no way they want someone of that knowledge and skill killed, and likewise, they want the Eberron equivilent of Fort Knox protecting him. Alternately, its a Man In The Iron Mask gambit. Does that give you any starting points?
#3 charlemegne Feb 16, 2012 16:18:53	Actually that really helps now I have two ideas for the children they woulf probably be political/leverage prisoners whereas perhaps for a warforged or shardmind perhaps they have something "bound" to them and besides I have always toyed with the idea that shardminds are masses of dragonshards. Or lets say that something like an Overlord was bound to a Shardmind. And at this point in time it has given me to many ideas to type.
#4 Gilo Feb 16, 2012 20:41:38	Ideas for a child prisoner in Dreadhold: - Kalashtar are born with the mental and emotional state of an adult; so maybe a kalashtar child with dangerous psionic powers is kept in Dreadhold until he can learn to gain some inner balance. possibly his linage members are paying house Kundarak for this. - A variation on Melysse Miron: the Anti-Keeper of the Flame (from the "Dreadhold" article in Dragon). Make her the same age as Jaela (or younger?), the theocracy fear her power/influence/knowledge from whispers in the flame, but don't want to be preserved as cruel by killing a child and making her a matryr. - Chamber/Lord of Dust is keeping a child in Dreadhold using some illusion or polymorph spells to make it look like a dull witted adult prisoner (/mask him as an existing prisoner), to effect the Draconic Prophecy in some point in time.
