#1 Omnirahk_half-Rahkshi Jun 03, 2009 11:05:34	(This was designed for an Eberron game, btw. Just a theoretical game, though. I'm hanging onto it until I find an opportunity). A native of Shavarath, the Battleground, Hilt Brokenblade's squadron was sent to Eberron during the Last War as an intelligence operation. Several squadrons were sent out as disparate mercenary groups, and they would serve on different sides (but would not engage other bladelings), in order to better learn about the advances Eberron has made in warfare. Specifically, the warforged and various magical siege engines. After the Mourning, negotiations began, and Hilt heard a word never uttered on Shavarath: peace. It was a concept utterly alien to his people, but Hilt was intrigued. He wanted to know what this "peace" was, and why people longed for it. So, as his platoon prepared to return home, Hilt ran off. He deserted his squadron and moved to Sharn. (While Hilt may not admit it, a secondary motivation may be that he feels underappreciated within his squadron, having never moved up within the ranks). Now Hilt is a restless soul. Wanderlust often takes him, because he doesn't know what to do with himself when not fighting. To that extent, he is much akin to many warforged. Neither warforged nor bladeling were ever intended to know a life beyond battle. Given the opportunity, they don't know what to do with themselves. But now they need to find their place in the world. Designer's Notes: I came across the name Brokenblade while reading through the 3.5 Eberron Campaign Setting. Breland's Castle Brokenblade is named after a famous episode in which Galifar I shattered his sword during battle, but won the day nonetheless. Since Shavarath is but a reflection of one aspect of Eberron (battle), it seems appropriate that a famous event such as this has echoes in Shavarath, resulting in a mirror event. Hilt may be a descendent of Shavarath's echo of King Galifar I (although I doubt this shadow of Galifar would have anywhere near the same political standing). So, what say ye?

One thing I'm finding: I can create much better character concepts when I know the setting well and can tie him into the world.
