| #1Alter_BoyMay 23, 2011 2:11:12 | Yeah, the novels coming out for the Eberron line? They'll have the Dungeons and Dragons On-line symbol on them, with Eberron in small-print in-between "on-line" and "unlimited". www.wizards.com/dnd/Product.aspx?x=dnd/p... This has got to be the biggest thing WotC has ever done to piss me off. Ever. More than the cancellation of the Eberron line of gamebooks. This... rebranding of Eberron as DDO. It offends me a great deal. |
| #2jhanzurMay 23, 2011 5:44:49 | They never cancelled any Eberron books. The release format for 4th edition campaign settings is 3 books(1 Campaign guide, 1 players guide and an adventure for FR and Eberron, Creature Catalog, Campaign Guide, and an adventure for Dark Sun). The fact is they covered a lot of non edition specific stuff in the other books that were released for 3/3.5 Eberron, very little of that actually changed in 4th ed. As far as novels, this novel appears directly related to DDO's setting(which is Stormreach), there are other novels coming out that are for Eberron. I think you need to calm down and take a deep breath. The one thing I think is unfourtunate, is what I see as a lack of Eberron support from DDI. |
| #3OgiwanMay 23, 2011 18:38:46 | They never cancelled any Eberron books. Well, Death Comes Easy was cancelled, but that wasn't a game book. Or a particularly good series. Quite true. I still use a lot of my 3.5 books for fluff. As far as novels, this novel appears directly related to DDO's setting(which is Stormreach), there are other novels coming out that are for Eberron. I think you need to calm down and take a deep breath. Bleh. I don't have any interest in DDO, and only some interest in Xen'Drik. However, if I can get more Eberron books if they're under the DDO "line," I'll take it. 'Sides, Rockwell is good enough. The one thing I think is unfourtunate, is what I see as a lack of Eberron support from DDI. Amen. I was going through Dragon and Dungeon to bookmark articles that I would find useful for me running my Eberron campaign. I swear, it seemed like virtually every issue of Dungeon had a bloody "Eyes on the Realms" or "Relmslore" or some other article devoted to the Realms. I count the number of Eberron articles at 13. (Hah! The setting's Arc Number!) |
| #4folcwynMay 23, 2011 19:24:46 | I don't see references to other Eberron Novels to be published. Where did you see that? |
| #5Alter_BoyMay 24, 2011 0:32:20 | Ogi-wan: I happened to like that series. Don't make me use a "Death Comes Easy" pun...I don't see references to other Eberron Novels to be published. Where did you see that? www.wizards.com/dnd/Product.aspx?x=dnd/p... The Shard Axe is an Eberron novel. |
| #6OgiwanMay 24, 2011 15:41:01 | You can have The Lanternlight Chronicals. I'd much rather have Heirs of Ash. Folcwyn, Alter_Boy's link is the book that spurred this thread, but I'm assuming that there will be other DDO/Eberron books based on....well, that. The fact that its DDO, rather than "pure" Eberron. |
| #7folcwynMay 24, 2011 19:26:47 | You can have The Lanternlight Chronicals. I'd much rather have Heirs of Ash. So it seems Eberron is shelved in favour of Forgetten Realms - too bad. Not that any of the novels really captured what I thought Eberron would be like. |
| #8OgiwanMay 24, 2011 19:30:04 | So it seems Eberron is shelved in favour of Forgetten Realms - too bad. True story. I'm not a fan of the Realms; I just find it so.....bad, to make it short. Not that any of the novels really captured what I thought Eberron would be like. Really? Which books did you read, out of curiosity? |
| #9folcwynMay 24, 2011 20:11:33 | So it seems Eberron is shelved in favour of Forgetten Realms - too bad. Claws of the tiger, 3 Legacy of Dhakaan novels , The Binding Stone, The dragon forge and one or two others not necessarily in that order. They paid lip service to Eberron but were essentially D&D novels. My personal vision of Eberron was derived from J. Gregory Keyes Age of Unreason books, Sean McMullen's Eyes of the Calculor, and Gene Wolfe's books of the Long Sun and books of the new Sun series and some others long out of print whose titles have faded from memory. All this tempered by Jack Vance's The dying Earth, Steampunk, Lawrence Watt-Evans Dragon Weather and a dash of Rocket Robin Hood. |
| #10HellcowMay 24, 2011 21:15:10 | I swear, it seemed like virtually every issue of Dungeon had a bloody "Eyes on the Realms" or "Relmslore" or some other article devoted to the Realms. Well, you might be happy to hear that I'm signed up to write a monthly Eye on Eberron series... the first of which comes out in June, I believe, though I could be mistaken! |
| #11sallaMay 24, 2011 21:16:37 | I swear, it seemed like virtually every issue of Dungeon had a bloody "Eyes on the Realms" or "Relmslore" or some other article devoted to the Realms. Awesome. |
| #12SturmvogelMay 24, 2011 23:46:28 | I swear, it seemed like virtually every issue of Dungeon had a bloody "Eyes on the Realms" or "Relmslore" or some other article devoted to the Realms. ![]() I'm really glad to hear this, I can only re-read the dragonshard archives so many times! -edit- I spell gud. |
| #13chemikusMay 25, 2011 2:27:01 | I swear, it seemed like virtually every issue of Dungeon had a bloody "Eyes on the Realms" or "Relmslore" or some other article devoted to the Realms. Finally!! This is a good reason to refresh my DDI Account! |
| #14OgiwanMay 25, 2011 3:04:46 | Claws of the tiger, 3 Legacy of Dhakaan novels , The Binding Stone, The dragon forge and one or two others not necessarily in that order. They paid lip service to Eberron but were essentially D&D novels. Ok, I can kinda get how you may feel that way. All of those seem to kinda take place in the wilderness of Eberron, and therefore, miss how drastically different Eberron is, socially and economically. And magically, I guess. Its a good thing you didn't read the Blade of the Flame series, because even that I found to be generic fantasy. If I may suggest, though, the Inquisitives series, I feel, shows Eberron in a good way, as does (my favorite) Heirs of Ash. Well, you might be happy to hear that I'm signed up to write a monthly Eye on Eberron series... the first of which comes out in June, I believe, though I could be mistaken! "Happy" is one way to put it, yes. ![]() ![]() |
| #15Madfox11May 25, 2011 3:44:43 | The Legacy if Dhakaan generic fantasy? Granted, it only barely touches the magic=tech part of Eberron, but it is so deeply rooted in Eberron history I doubt you can fit it into any other setting. |
| #16jhanzurMay 25, 2011 4:41:14 | I swear, it seemed like virtually every issue of Dungeon had a bloody "Eyes on the Realms" or "Relmslore" or some other article devoted to the Realms. HUZZAH! Also, may I just say that I'm half way through reading The Fading Dream, and the series has been great. I'm loving the way the Eladrin have been tied to events of the world through the book. I was on the fence with it until reading the book, but they've got such a compelling reason for winding up stuck on the material plane. |

If you like some (Nightmare) Eladrin, I'll also point to Jeff LaSala's articles on Taer Lian Doresh on DDI. |
| #18mrockwellMay 26, 2011 14:54:44 | They never cancelled any Eberron books. Actually, they cancelled at least four books that I'm aware of, including books by myself, Jeff LaSala and Matt Forbeck. But that was a while ago. However, if I can get more Eberron books if they're under the DDO "line," I'll take it. 'Sides, Rockwell is good enough. Thanks, I think. ;) The Shard Axe was written to appeal to both Eberron fans and DDO fans. It begins in Stormreach (the Stormreach of the DDO game, so there are some differences, but the Eberron flavor remains) and ends in Karrnath and the Mror Holds. DDO had 3 million players last I heard, so it would seem obvious for Wizards to tap into that audience to revitalize the novel line. As I have said many times, if you want more Eberron novels, buy the ones that are already out and pre-order the ones that are coming out. If you want Eberron books that are OOP, click on that "tell the publisher you want this in ebook format" button on Amazon. That does make a difference, believe it or not. Regards, Marsheila (Marcy) Rockwell www.marsheilarockwell.com |
| #19jhanzurMay 27, 2011 8:44:41 | They never cancelled any Eberron books. I probably should have clarified a little bit, they never cancelled any game books is what I meant to say. I wasn't aware of the novels being cancelled. |
| #20OgiwanMay 27, 2011 12:53:15 | It begins in Stormreach (the Stormreach of the DDO game, so there are some differences, but the Eberron flavor remains) and ends in Karrnath and the Mror Holds. Sold. Xen'Drik is cool and all, but I don't think I could read All Xen'Drik All The Time. Marsha, have you been told how extensive they're planning on making the first grouping of the DDO books? Three or four stand-alone books, like the Inquisitives series? Or trilogies? Or what? |
