What powers have you/would you give aberrant marked foes? This is where you get to go crazy and break out the big guns.
Aberrant mark of fire? Earth? Plague? Can they cause earthquakes, firestorms and wide spread illness? Do they have marks that allow them to gain immunity to certain damage types (keywords) or conditions?
Do you go above and beyond, creating out of combat functions that have a benefit like dragonmarked houses do?
Do your creations extend to pcs as well, or just monsters? Did you leave aberrant marks alone?
Also, what is the purpose of the aberrant mark in your game? A natural balance of the prophecy? A device of the rakshasa to trigger a time of doom and spooky music? Are aberrants the good guys, oppressed by the corrupt and self serving dragonmarked thugs?
Anything cool you did using the aberrant mark worth posting?
Is the son of khyber, sam gold? (ignore that if you havnt seen revolver)
thanks for any and all replies. |

This is what I'm up to in my latest campaign.

I tend to go elemental with powers on aberrant marked enemies. I take attacks from Archons in the Monster Manual and add them to the new monster’s stat block

I generally give monsters resistance to whatever element their mark represents. I wrote a monster with an Aberrant Mark of Hunger and decided to make his damage/resist Necrotic, but the rest are pretty standard.

I haven’t yet, but my players haven’t had contact with these NPCs yet and I’m expecting more combat, less roleplay. I hadn’t thought of that, but I like it!

I do what Madfox suggested, use Spellscarred as detailed in the Forgotten Realms Player’s Guide. One player pointed out that the major difference between the current Aberrant Dragonmarks and the Spellscarred is that one must take a multiclass feat. I replied that makes sense consider how deeply affected one’s life is by developing an aberrant mark.

In my campaign they are definitely a natural part of the prophecy. Eberron, Khyber, and Siberys all have marks, but Khyber have been hunted to near extinction and Siberys marks are a closely guarded secret of the information-hoarding elite. As heirs of Eberron, I have Eberron marks bearing ties to the dragons, while Khyber marks are tied to those that dwell in Khyber (the Lords of Dust and the daelkyr). I haven’t decided what Siberys marks are tied to. |

Oh, I have no real ideas about aberrant marks.

... Well, OK, maybe a few.
In my campaign, aberrant marks as a whole haven't returned to the power level seen in the War of the Mark. You've got Zae (a girl who can influence a few rats at a time) as opposed to the Lady of the Plague laying a mark upon a city that's lasted for centuries. The powers of the marks are growing, but the powers wielded by Tarkanan and the Dreambreaker are still things of the past. Of course, that's something could change over the course of a campaign... but that fits with the idea that PCs are on the edge of history.
As a side note, I don't personally consider Son of Khyber to be canon (as is the general rule with Eberron novels). When I wrote the Tarkanan section of the ECG, I intentionally left the identity of the Son of Khyber vague. The novel is a path you COULD take with him - but it shouldn't stop you from exploring a different idea.
