They decide to sneak into Karrnath with the help of a Paranoid Cyran Avenger. So last session, during Roleplay, the party figures out that the Cyran Avenger is a little off kilter because his personal theory is: "Karrnath is behind the Day of Mourning. I know because they're always messing around with Necromancy and Dark Magic. I've got evidence that indicates that at the outset of the Last War, King Kaius I made a deal with the Blood of Vol who turned him into a Lich or a Vampire or a Mummy or something. He was then buried just outside of Metrol and on the day of Mourning, he rose from his shallow grave and cast a spell that he had been weaving for 100 years, which caused the Mists to form and consume my beloved Cyre. Then, Kaius I returned to Karrnath and quietly overthrew Kaius III! You can tell, because just after the Day of Mourning, Kaius III's personality suddenly changed! When you take into account the continued activity of the Emerald Claw and the continued use of Undead, it all makes perfect sense!" Which of course everyone knows is complete and utter nonsense. So the Avenger sneaks the party into Karrnath and leaves the party to do his own business. The party makes its way into Atur, pursuing leads on the Emerald Claw cell that attacked them, and are approached by a Changeling in a black cloak who presents a decree from King Kaius III that the party follow the changeling to a meeting place. Once the party arrives at the meeting place I inform them that: Everbright lanterns in the room suddenly spring to life and you find yourself across the table from a man. He's got rather angular features with well groomed white hair. Mostly you notice that he's wearing Blood Red plate armor and has a black cape (About half of the players blink and say "Oh Sh*t" at this point). He smiles pleasantly at you. From here people make DC 5 history checks to recognize Kaius III, except our resident Goliath from Xen'Drik who simply blinks at everyone else bows and says "Is he supposed to be important?" Kaius laughs at this and considers the Goliath to be "Charming, if uncouth." Another PC tells the Goliath that he's King Kaius III at which point the Goliath simply blinks and says "Aren't you supposed to be Undead?" This stops the game for a good 5 minutes while we all laugh and I catch my breath. In game Kaius has a good laugh then says "Is that what they're saying about me these days?" before moving on to the business of offering the party aid against the Emerald claw cell in exchange for information. I just thought I'd share this moment with you guys. |
