| #1horatioatthebridgeSep 29, 2011 19:21:00 | I'm running a game in Sharn and just picked up the adventure Madness at Gardmore Abbey. The players are still a few levels away from the adventure, but I think it would be a great fit for my game. I want to make the old knightly order into a Silver Flame outpost on the border between Droamm and Breland, but there's a lot of lore that needs to be amended. Does anyone have some suggestions on adapting the adventure for Eberron, especially the history of the knightly order? I want one of their big Crusades to tie into the Silver Flame fight against the lycanthropes, such as perhaps the Crusade against the Zehir cultists, but then I'd have to adapt that vampire into an undead lycanthrope or something...also, what would the other two Crusades be? Where would they have gotten the Deck of Many Things from especially, since Galifar wouldn't necessarily have had an Iron Fortress to Crusade against? |

Fair enough. When I get that far, I'll post what I do in the adventure to adapt it. Oh, though, before I start, is it against the ToS to post sufficient details of a published adventure to give it setting specific adaptations? |

I`m a huge Eberron fan and in paralel I`m running the Gardmore Abbey in the Points of Light setting and I belive there is a lot of flavors diference between the Pulp Action of Eberron and the Cape and Sword romance of the Points of Light. Anyway, my ideas for addaptation follow: - The Abbey needs to be in a edge of civilization. I`d put it in the border between Eldeen Reaches and Deamon Wastes. And yes, I`d make it a Silver Flame monastery too, a crusaders far outpost where an elite of the Church lives to bring the light of the flame to the very end of Khorvaire; - In the original history, the knights of the Abbey are a kind of elite force of Nerath, so they answer a war call to the south to fight the Iron Fortress; In Eberron the call would be in some point of the Last War where Thrane itself was in danger, and the church urged for it`s Knights to save it`s home land; - For the Deck I`d think in something connect to Xoriat and the Daelkyr since it`s an Chaos Unleasher artefact, corrupting and bringing the user to Madness, maybe the order taken the Deck to remove it from the center of the war, bringing it to a place where the war mean less and where it could be "protected"; - About addapting the creatures in the abbey, I don`t think it`s too much necessary, since there`s a time lapse of 100 years from the fall of the monastery to the arrival of the adventurers, many power groups may occuped the place, and, remember, you are in Deamon Wastes and Eldeen Reaches, feel free to use Lycanthropes and Deamons as you wish; - Transform the Voidharrow in Khyber Shards and Catwright in an mad explorer; I think, though, you can better addapt the history than the place to make it an Eberron Adventure: - Forget the "purge the evil from a ruin" thing and think more of Spionage or Indiana Jones adventuring, I mean, maybe the adventurers got a job from Wayfinder Foundation or Moorgrave University (since you are in sharn now) to recover the artifact; This idea remove the "Drama" from the Abbey and put it as a action adventure; - Explore the Rival Group much more than in the original history: Having an other adventourous party (not necessarily evil as the original), is much fun in Eberron. Maybe researchers from another university, rivals in Spionage (Royal Eye vs Dark Lantern), or better yet. - Think of a Patron from Wayfinder calling both parties to a metting, giving both the same quest and promessing reward for those who bring the full Deck. You`d transform the adventure in a Race-Like Expedition, and it`s all you need in an Eberron game. You can even start the plot as a "Hangover Wake Up" just to discover the rivals drugged you and now have 6 hours of advantage hehehhe That`s what I think for now. Tell me if you like it and if I have more ideas I post then here. Good Luck! |
