Are there "skiffs" in 4e Eberron?

I remember there being air skiffs (flying platforms that could carry a few people) in 3e Eberron and was wondering if they exist in 4e Eberron.  If so, is there a description of the some where and rules for movement and such?

Thanks!

The Adventurer's Vault contains rules for vehicles, and unless I am misremembering also contains small airships.

Adventurer's vault has some rules for vehicles in general, and for an airship (the type with a balloon)

Air-skiffs, air-taxis, Elemental Galleons/airships/land-carts, and other things don't have stats (yet) - so look at similar vehicles and make your own stats!

Eberron Campaign Guide, page 281, has the stats for a Skycoach (pretty much a big flying taxi).

Huh, never noticed it there.

Only reason I remembered it was because i remember cackling with glee at the prospect of having that aerial chase scene in Sharn. Specifically, having a PC jump from the skycoach to a soarsled, tackle the goblin, and then beat the living hell out of it while the soarsled tumbles out of control. Of course, he'd regain control just before a catastrophic collision, and then spend a round or two dodging pedestrian traffic trying to get back to the fight.

OMG that is an awesome image and I think might just be the start of a whole new campaign starting out in Sharn !

Go right ahead. I've stolen so much off of these forums that I can't even remember what I took.

Would it be a Sharn campaign, or just a campaign starting in Sharn? 'Cause I've always wanted to run a Sharn campaign; I mean, it's a private eye's wet dream, and has booku pulp action possibilities.

Hah. Just remembered another one. One of my players put a Bashing Shield on his wish list, and I decided to give it to him. They were rummaging around in the Morgrave Library, and a squad of 'forged working for the LoBster attacked them (or was it the Emerald Claw? Can't remember.). The PC who wanted the Bashing Shield got it.....and got knocked out a stained glass window. Everybody though he was toast, fallen off a tower, but then I revealed to them that on the other side of that window was an outdoor cafe (you know, the nice ones with the wrought-iron white furniture?). Which the PCs then proceeded to tear up.

Anyways. Eberron = Pulp Action. Just remember that.

When Eberron first came out for 3.5 i ran what started out as a Sharn campaign for about 18 months. It was based around a Private Eye agency ran by one of the players. He set it up in Fallen and used the fact it was in one of the worst areas of the city as the base line for many story lines.

I should have kept it in Sharn but i made the mistake of taking the adventurers out of the city on a contract and never got them back there. Still it would be fun to re-ignite it again.

These kind of scenes were slightly easier to pull off in 3E then 4E. I ran a great chase scene with skiffs through Sharn with them dodging traffic, bridges and objects thrown in their path by the villains they were chasing all the whole doing their utmost best to actually stay inside the skiff. I doubt I would have tried it without that +1d6 though since a string of failed check would lead to a dead PC - nobody survives a fall of several hundreds of feet. So, if you do design these scenes, think of what happens when a PC does fail a check. Not all bridges can be protected by feather fall wards ;)

Your point is well taken. Truth be told, I missed the +1d6 Action Points myself; whenever they made the difference, I would start describing it as if they failed, but then say, "BUT WITH HEROIC [whatever]....."

When I was running my 4e Eberron games, I awarded "Drama Points" based on roleplaying/creativity/acting/pulp awesomeness, with each point able to be traded in for a +1 bonus.  Handed out poker chips as a visual reminder.  I think it worked well, but I may be a bit biased.

Anyways. If a PC does fail the check, it doesn't necessarily mean instant death. They might just be hanging from the edge of the soarsled as the goblin stands above them, preparing to cut off their hands and send them falling into the depths of Sharn.  The PC could then either come up with some sort of plan, or...something else. Trade in Drama Points for some Dramatic Editing that features a bridge or tunnel up ahead that the goblin slams into, but the soarsled slips beneath by just a few inches. *shrug* Rule of Cool, that's all I'm saying.

Doesn't one of the encounters in the back of the 4e ECG have a battle on an air skiff? As I recall, if you fall out you (only?) fall a couple stories down so you're dealing with 3d10 max instead of 10d10.

Yes, the Eberron Campaign Guide P. 281 that I cited is the encounter you speak of. However, I'll take your word for the "you only take 3d10 damage" thing; again, when i read it, I was far too busy cackling with glee and thinking of mid-air obstacles to happen to the encounter.

Hehehehehe. Anybody remember the flying Chinese food guy in The Fifth Element?  Wonder what you could do with that.....OH! Well, it wouldn't be chinese food, it could be Shadow Marcher food or some such, but really spicy stuff. So, tackle a goblin off his soarsled by accident, land in flying Shadow Marches skykitchen, another goblin breaks off to help his tackled bro. Step 1: Provide PC with wok to beat the tackled goblin unconcious/dead with.* Step 2: When the other goblin arrives with his soarsled, PC can take really spicy sauce, squirt in goblin's eyes, and watch him clutch his eyes as he falls off the soarsled, to his doom. PC then comandeers soarsled and rejoins the scuffle.

*Heeee! For bonus points, the PC and gobbo could roll off a soarsled, and land in the Flying SM Food Thing. The gobbo could be on top, trying to choke the hell out of the PC, who can reach a wok. *WHONG*

4e Eberron Campaign Guide, pg 281 has a sky coach. I have used those re-flavored as skiff (i.e., dingys) for full-sized airships. Gives heroic levels parties something to fly around in before they could possibly own their own airship.

The Plane Above: Secrets of the Astral Sea has stats for a variety of Astral Sea ships which could be easily re-fluffed.
