A player asked this of me and it's been a while since I devoured Keith's novel.  How would you answer this question?

A player asked this of me and it's been a while since I devoured Keith's novel.  How would you answer this question?   My first immediate thought would be, "Well, are you sure the character in the novel wasn't just infusing a Spell Storing Item?" Thats the only infusion I know of off the top of my head that can be held for later use.
