Assassin as an Inquisitive?

Jan 19, 2010 4:41:39 Ideas? This may end up being an FR character, but he would fill the same role as the Inquisitive. Hopefully I'll end up being able to use him in Eberron, though.

Just kind of looking for ideas on how to build him, a good multi-class option, etc.

Jan 19, 2010 9:32:09 Really, all I can think of is to build an assassin like you ordinarily would, just make sure he has Inquisitivy skills. Perception, definitely, maybe....Streetwise, Arcana, History, and/or some face skills.

Another option would be to go ritual caster and get inquisitivy rituals.

     The Mark of Detection would be great for you. Not only does it give you all divination rituals (and a handful of other thematically-appropriate rituals), it lets you reroll perception checks. There are a few ways you could go for the mark. Canon says it only pops up on Half Elves, but as a DM I'd allow it on a Half Elf whose Elven heritage is so strong zie's mechanically a full-blooded Elf. If you're willing to go the aberrant route you could be a Gnoll whose aberrant mark emulates the Mark of Detection. Throw in Gnoll Tracking, and you're well on your way to being a damned fine inquisitive.

     That's off the top of my head. Gnoll and Elf have racial bonuses to perception. Elf has +WIS, which is another point of perception. Gnoll has the tracker feat, which is +5 to following tracks and seeing through illusions and disguises. Both have a bonus to the Assassin's primary stat, and Gnoll has a secondary.

     I dunno if this kind of specific concept is what you were looking for, it's just what came to mind. Personally, the idea of an aberrant-marked Gnoll inquisitive skulking the streets of Sharn with the power of shadow sounds damned sexy. Might have to play that someday.

     Named Rrr'shak. The aberrant mark could stretch across his face, ever-changing into eerily symmetrical shapes.
