Assassination of a lizardman-any suggestions?

Hi everyone! In our current campaign, the war between Q'barra and the Lizardfolk has left the army of New Galifar dried. The reasons have been many, from unexpexted arcane wielding to ruthless allies of the lizardfolk, but perhaps the most important one is their Warlord, Convis-Saracken. A half-dragon blackscale, Convis-Saracken has proved himself to be an expert tactician and an undefeatable foe in battle. Most of his followers literally worship him as a demigod-the Convis-Saracken cult is steadingly growing. Some claim that he's not just blessed by Rashaak but actually his scion.

After many victories, he was at last stalled outside Newthrone, mainly by the efforts of the PCs and Riedran reinforcements and forced to retreat, not beforing besting the kingdom's champions(outside the PCs, of course).Still, it was a pyrhric victory for New Galifar whose defence is now almost exclusively based on Riedrans and mercenaries. It's a desperate situation and House Thuranni is assembling an assassination squad using their local best agent and her allies(a.k.a. the PCs-now 12th lvl). Remove Convis-Saracken and New Galifar will reform its groups and go to the offensive. Thus, I'm in need of thoughts and suggestions considering the possible place and the lizardmen's defences.

At first, I'm in a dilemma concerning the place.Should it be a new lizardmen' camp, marching to Newthrone, or his palace in Kar'hasan?
Decisions, decisions...

Secondly, the Warlord is of course going to be defended. I've already considered his fanatical priests and champions, perhaps the odd sorceror(lizardman or kobold- a long story that) and, of course, his Bloody Shadow allies(ANOTHER long story). But what else should be there?

Furthermore, the Lords of Dust and the Talons of Tiamat also want him dead and have infiltrated the lizardfolk(creating the illusion of a fiend-collaborating army to outsiders, leading to events that might compromise Rashaak) but hw could they aid the PCs(and stalk the later)without compromising their own?
Note on that:one of them, a Talon of Tiamat, will betray their betrayal to the PCs, since he needs them in order to manipulate the prophecy(and keep the deception of an ally).

Evidently, there's a lot of work to be done, which is why I'm turning to the community's brain power. So, what do you think ?

I would perhaps add some summoned creatures, perhaps draconic of some sort, as Bodyguards or such to just kick it up a notch and solidify the Rashaak connection to an extent.

As to the other groups "assisting" your party, how about them using their spys and operatives to influence searches and troop deployments and watch shifts. Hell just simple distractions at the right time will aid the party but no reveal the others existence.

...and then try to mislead the party while escaping.A sound tactic. Thanks!
