I am currently playing in an Eberron game that is taking place in Droaam.  The whole party is monster races.  we have 2 minotaur, 2 goblins, and 1 drow.  My character a minotaur runepriest is from Droaam originally and is loyal, well as loyal as anyone, to the Daughters of Sora Kell.

To get him with the rest of the party it was added to his backstory that he was sent with a small force to Xen'drik so the sisters could get a first hand account of the situation.  On the way home he ended up with only one other member of the original party in Korranberg and was given the oppurtunity to be able to get home as a part of the quest for the Ashen Crown.  Which with all sorts of complications during the reassmbly of it, as there were three factions trying to get it, ended up going to the Daughters.  Gaining him and his group a messure of favor with them and a tidy little sum of gold.

He has developed ambitions of becoming a new Warlord of Droaam and has started by recruiting a few loyal followers, as they are mostly loyal to gold right now he is paying them, and setting up the begining's of an adventurer's guild in the Calabas district of Graywall.  He's putting the notoriety gained from the finding of the Ashen Crown to use to form the basis of his reputation, to help draw a customer basis.  The main point of the Guild is to target new talent and start recruiting.  This is all mostly for fluff as while I would love to him be able to start commanding his own army, especialy come paragon tier when adventures tend to have those really large reputations.  I never plan on taking an army during an adventure or anything else, but this sort of thing is needed for those grand plans.  He is also going to still work in the Daughters best interest to further gain favor in their eyes and more power as he and the party succeed.  We are only level five right now and as such still not the most famous adventurers and this is all just a start of such things.  But I need help with ideas.  He's going about it as diplomatic as possible though he may not have a problem smashing somebody until they gave him power 3 out of 5 of the party would likely seriously oppose it, so he's isn't going at it from that angle.  What would you do, that could also be active passively outside of actual sessions so as to not detract from the game, to build a loyal following?

Besides outright conquering how did the other warlords amass power.  Political games could happen during sessions as we already have to a certain extant, including fostering a relationship with the Korranberg Library and the Daughters.  But what other things are there that could be more passive that I could do to help along the quest of becoming a warlord.  It's really just the ambition of one character and I don't want it to be a super heavy influence on the game and risk it becoming kind of me spectacle, this wouldn't fully happen as the DM is working hard to give all characters spotlight time and let us all do what we are trying to do.  It's just happened that backstory wise that plot hooks almost came standard and supplied with choices my character was making.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well what you have written so far shows the player has a few options to work with.

I guess you as DM need to make a call really - do you want a political game in which case diplomacy and softly softly approach from the player will eventually gain him more power and influence - will he get to Warlord - i'm not so sure. I doubt he would be overly respected by many factions on the other hand some would respect him more for it.

Alternatively what about a story line where the characters uncover a warlord planning to rebel. Maybe in fighting this individual their reward is to get the title themselves ?

Have you read 'Doom of Kings' or 'Word of Traitors' by Don Bassingthwaite ? Both excellent novels predominantly set in Darguun i think they would give you some great ideas for political stories, characters gaining titles etc. Well worth reading in my opinion.
