Book with Small-scale conflict?

May 20, 2009 10:43:30 Right now I'm on Dragon Forge by James Wyatt. Its been very good so far, but it seems like there's an "end of the world" plot going on. Are there any Eberron novels with a more localized sort of conflict?

Don Bassingwaite's new Dhaakani books (starting with the Doom of Kings) seems more local. Its a whole country's problems, but it isn't a world destorying sort of problem.

Yeah. The problem is that (when writing an Eberron story)it gets hard not to make it world-shaking. Personally I am a big fan of giant events that effect the whole world. Anybody read The Queen of Stone?

May 20, 2009 15:49:56 The Inquisitives is a good series, though each is really a stand alone. They follow inquisitives (private detectives) on cases in various locations throughout Khorvaire. All four are worth a read.

I was going to suggest the Queen of Stone, actually, but then I remembered that it ramps up to world-shaking by the end.

Well so long as it is almost 100% non-world-shaking I sujest it.

May 21, 2009 10:02:55 I wouldn't want to a pull a bait-and-switch on the OP though. He wanted a story focused on local events. It'd be pretty mean to suggest him something that's almost what he wants, only to pull the rug out from under him at the end.

True. Like I said, it is just hard not to write something in Eberron that isn't world shaking. Eberron is to awsome not be world shaking. :D

May 26, 2009 11:32:21 The Blade of the Flame series has only minimal impact beyond the Lhazaar Principalities (and virtually none at all on the rest of Khorvaire - there's a bit of Sarlonan involvement, but not a lot).

And the Mark of Death, while not quite as limited, mainly deals with Karrnath, Talenta, Valenar, and Argonessen (and has no long-term impact on any of them).
