Breed Leech's pregnancy infection

If what is allowed to run its course? The infection, or the pregnancy?

Basically, the issue at question is, if the child is infected, but then Remove Disease is cast upon the mother/child before birth, is the child born as a Daelkyr Half-blood? Or, once infected, is the child "doomed?"

But, there are no rules stipulating how long the infection takes to run its course. We have no more info on the infection than that in the above-quoted sentence.

That part of the sentence modifies infetion, blah blah grammatical jargon. Anyways, I would think the Breed Leech infetion would work like AIDS or any other blood related disease that can be passed from mother to child, except that it is 100% effective, and incurable. Also, I don't think Remove Disease would work cast just before birth, as the disease is now technically part of the childs genetics. Just as Regeneration can't restore a birth defect or some handicap one has had from birth, I'd say Remove Disease would not work on a genetic disease, but that is my OO.

So, are you all thinking that once the breed leech is attached, the pregnancy is screwed? Even if the breed leech is removed long before the child is born?

Jun 09, 2008 21:59:41 I guess it really depends on how deep you want to get into it. For simplicity I would just rule that Remove Disease takes care of the child as well, being magic and all. On the other hand, if you wanted to get really into, perhaps you're group has to discover some sort of ritual or ingredient or something of that effect that will save the child from the horrors they will face. Basically the D&D version of genetic therapy.

Why not take this the moral way and rule that when you reach that 12 week marker, the leech has done its work. The genetics of the child is set and nothing can be changed.

No matter when the leech attached.

Is you want to make it more realistic, give the leech a timeframe. Everything from 1 to 11 weeks will do, but have in mind that the longer the leech requires to do the foul deed, the easier it will be for the characters to remove the curse.

You are in other words setting the difficulty of the task when you decide how long the characters will have to discover and remove the curse. (I call it curse, it might be somthing else, haven't read the book).

So, decide when the genetics of the child is "set", and how long the leech requires to do its work. And bear in mind the difficulty this will bring to the task of saving the child.
