| #1pedrJun 28, 2009 3:33:09 | I hope this is the right place to put this... I'm a little confused by the borders of Darguun shown in the 3.5 ECS, Forge of War, and the EPG. Particularly I'd like to know where the Brelish which Forge of War refers to as living in the area taken by the Lhesh actually were. I can understand that a great many Cyrans were displaced, killed, or enslaved when Darguun made its land-grab, but the borders suggest that none of pre-war Breland - and very little of Cyre under Brelish control at the time - was taken. The eastern border between Zilargo and Darguun appears to be identical to the pre-war border between Breland and Cyre, i.e the Seawall Mountains. The reason I'm looking into this is that I'm searching for a back-story/history for a character and, reading Forge of War, it seemed an interesting event - both the need to flee/potential for capture in 969YK and the doomed offensive at the Battle of Marguul Pass in 970YK. But the Battle only makes sense if there was a sense in Breland that the Hobgoblins had done a terrible wrong to Brelish people (and Brelish pride) - so I'm interested to know if anyone knows who the Brelish were among "The Cyran and Brelish folk who lived [in the lands seized by Darguun who] were slaughtered or enslaved as the nation of Darguun was born in blood." (Forge of War p32-33). Many thanks! |

That's enough time for light settlement and an entire generation to be raised. |

Those lines aren't fixed in any way, seeing as this is not a world of satellite photography, long fences/checkpoints, signs saying, "No Entering Breland/Cyre!", and the larger density populations tending to not live on the outskirts of their respective nations. So when Darguun is born, populations around it all came under some form of control or at least influence. It doesn't help that the many of the Goblins have a penchant for slavery and still do launch attacks into other regions for this purpose. And during the Last War, Darguun was still at war. People didn't want a bunch of Goblins setting up shop right next door; launching attacks, slave runs, and generally stirring up trouble. That's also a huge chunk of land up for grabs. They'd beat the tar out of the Goblins before (when they first came to Khorvaire). I suppose they figured they could do it again. |
