Okay Keith, was it you who named the former owner of the Drowning Sorrows in City of Stormreach, where "the drink is cheap, the company is friendly, and the tavern is airy?" The barkeep "who was famous for being able to get people to spill their troubles within moments of meeting her?" If not, were you in on the gag?

Either way... is there some trick to the name of the current owner, Bula O'Loarima? I have to guess that there is, because this is the only place I've ever seen a name starting with O' in Eberron. I've been turning it over and over (and over and over) in my head, but I just can't suss it out like I did with Camellia Khan's name.

Please, rescue me from madness!

I get that, but I don't think I've ever seen any other instances of O' or Mac in Eberron, is what I'm saying. It seems like something that might've been used to make an anagrammed name fit. Normally I'm not this paranoid, but since Camellia Khan is an anagram for the name of another fictional barkeep who fits the descriptions of the text I quoted from City of Stormreach, I'm guessing the other name in the entry has some meaning as well.

Don't have a clue what you're talking about with Cameilla Khan though.

No worries. It's an inside joke, as references tend to be, so I'm being kind of inside with it in the hopes that someone who gets it will come along before I have to spill the beans. In a perfect world, that someone'd be our dear Hellcow. :D

Not mine. I certainly get the reference, but most of my work on the book was tied to organizations and history, not the ward descriptions. I'm going to guess this particular piece was Nic Logue's, as I've seen a number of other inside jokes in his Stormreach work.

Ah, thank you very much for the response. Now I'll have to go over the rest of the book with a fine-toothed comb to see if I catch anything else. :D

Since this is about as much closure as I could ask for, I'll put it to bed for anyone who might have been wondering; Camellia Khan is a reference to Callahan's Crosstime Saloon, one of the greatest series ever written, as the letters in her name rearrange to spell Mike Callahan, the bartender of same who, gender aside, fits the NPC's description to a T. The strange theatrics I engaged in with my post were a nod to a common custom at Callahan's.

Sorry for getting squee in everyone's Eberron; I'm just a sucker for hidden references and for Callahan's, so I had to make a noise about it. We now return you to your regularly scheduled foruming.
