Apr 20, 2008 19:52:02 So i was want to know if any one knows anything about Arcanix or The Twelve i want to start a story around them and if u know any thing it would real help

The Twelve is an center for higher learning funded by the various Dragonmarked Houses. When the houses work together for mutual financial benifit The Twelve is usually (but not always) the neutral ground they come together on. Though there were only ten Dragonmarked houses at the time of the founding of The Twelve a famed Cannith Artificer had divined that there would eventually be twelve dragonmarks (not counting 'the one that was lost'), thus the Academy was named.

The Twelve is at its heart a academic institution studying and teaching the mysteries of Arcane Magic, and Artifice. The Twelve is not exclusively for scions of the houses, though many who are magically inclinded are sent there to study. The Twelve accept any who have the talent, training the top talent with the full intention of recruiting these talented and highly trained individuals into the various house guilds.

Nothing I've read seems to indicate that students of the Twelve are required to join any of the house guilds, I just figure the recruiting is heavy. I also imagine scolarships would be offered with the terms of service for the sponcering house upon graduation being offered.

The Twelve have a mostly positive reputation, having created many of the greatest wonders of Khorvaire. Things like the Lightning Rail were designed in the halls of the Twelve. Still there are some dark spots on the institutions record. Mordain the Fleshweaver was a professor at the Twelve centuries ago, his experiments got him thrown out of the Twelve and exoraited from his own House (look for info on him in the Droaam section of the ECS). Also the Acquisitions Directorate (explorers handbook) is a cut-throat branch of the Twelve that tries to aquire powerful relics by any means nessacary. They will ransack ruins, jump claims, and occationally outright steal. The Wayfinders hate them.

The Twelve's main campus is in a massive floating complex above a city park in Korth. It was raised in responce to the Korth Edicts which prohibited the Dragonmarked houses from owning land... but the Twelve isn't on 'land'. Unlike the floating towers of the Arcanix the Keep of The Twelve is one massive floating island.

The Arcanix, run by the Arcane Congress, on the other hand was founded by a King of Galifar to ensure that mastery of the arcane did not fall into the hands of the d'marked houses alone. So it is in a lot of ways similar to The Twelve, a college seeking to teach the Arcane arts.

In the wake of the last war the Villiage of the Arcanix, and the floating towers above it were claimed by Aundair. The college has insofar remained relitively independant, but the Queen's brother (a warlord and minister of magic) has gained influance within the towers and hopes to use the college as a ready source of arcane might when the war starts up again (as he believes it will).

There are muliple towers floating over the city and each has dedicated purposes, some house libraries, some classrooms, some dorms. The towers are well reputed for their use of extradimentional interiors so they're much larger on the inside.

I guess you can tell which one has interested me more, and I've used more.

Thing to remember is while there are plenty of other colleges across Khorvaire, they have other specialties. Morgrave is known for its archeology, Korranberg for its massive libraries... but the Arcane Congress' Arcanix and The Dragonmarked House's The Twelve are the BEST for wizards and magewrights. They are Harvard and Yale law.

Apr 21, 2008 15:22:03 i have seen alot about something Call the shadow war and i know it has to do with the two shadow mark houses but is it the war they are haveing now or is it what made the to split.
