| #1AvonRekaesOct 05, 2010 12:35:42 | Hey guys, there's currently a D&D Novel Survey linked on the main D&D website. In addtion to purchasing Keith Baker's The Fading Dream that just got released (not to mention all the other great Eberron novels stil in print), this seems to also be a good way to show your support for Eberron novels. Let WotC know you read Eberron and love it! |
| #2OgiwanOct 05, 2010 16:40:10 | Done! |
| #3TalaeOct 05, 2010 23:52:00 | Done as well. |

| #7HellcowOct 06, 2010 13:33:55 | Thanks for pointing this out, AvonRekaes! I've linked to it on HDWT. The more Eberron readers that respond, the better chance we have of seeing more Eberron in the future. |
| #8ellorinOct 06, 2010 14:48:05 | Done! |
| #9salty1Oct 06, 2010 18:39:28 | Done. |
| #10VaelOct 06, 2010 22:41:24 | Done, and thanks for the note on the Fading Dream. I don't pay too much attention to novel releases, and hadn't noticed its release. I shall have to get that one. |
| #11angelus_obscuraOct 08, 2010 11:40:34 | I'm currently halfway through The Fading Dream and I stumbled across a litte gem in the book. One of the characters mentions something from the Heirs of Ash trilogy. I smiled at this special mention. That led me to this thread, which led me to the survey. I hope we see much more Eberron books in the near future! P.S. The book printers messed up with The Fading Dream's layout. The book's shape is assymetrical, specifically the top of the book being slanted up from the binding. Tempted to take an axe to the thing to even it out. haha ![]() |
| #12AvonRekaesOct 08, 2010 20:08:07 | Thanks for pointing this out, AvonRekaes! I've linked to it on HDWT. The more Eberron readers that respond, the better chance we have of seeing more Eberron in the future. My pleasure Keith! My thought exactly. I really hope the "silent majority" reads this and shows their support even if they never post. |
| #13joni-sanOct 13, 2010 14:04:40 | Did I miss the survey? |
| #14joeburgosOct 14, 2010 11:47:43 | Done. I only wish that some of the older novels would come back in print. |
| #15ChrisTheSOct 14, 2010 18:01:52 | Can't find the survey... |
| #16Mr._WilsonOct 15, 2010 1:20:58 | Bah. I was on vacation for the last week and seem to have missed the survey; the links I've seen to it all lead back to the DnD front page now. FWIW, I read the Legacy of the Dhaakan series on the plane rides, though I had to order it from Amazon since I couldn't find it in my local Barnes and Nobles, Borders, or Waldenbooks. Gonna pick up Keith's new book when I get a chance to make it the bookstores. |
| #17HellcowOct 15, 2010 1:30:48 | The survey appears to be done. Honestly, I'm a little gloomy about things, simply because it's so hard for people to FIND the Eberron books. Most of the major bookstores don't carry them (as noted by the stories here), and at the moment - less than two weeks after release - The Fading Dream isn't being actively promoted on the main D&D page (which mentions Death Comes Easy), the main novels page (which doesn't mention any Eberron books), or even the main Eberron page (which does, however, have Son of Khyber). If people can't see it on the shelf and aren't told about it online, it's hard for even existing fans of the series to know it's out there, let alone have the chance to pick up new fans. So if you DO like it and know other people who might enjoy it, word of mouth seems like the only really chance we have for decent sales... which is, again, what is likely the only thing that will help new Eberron novels. Of course, I recognize some people may not like my books, which is fine. But the same holds true for all Eberron novels. Sales figures are what WotC/Hasbro will pay attention to, and it's sales for the setting overall that tells them it's a good investment to keep supporting it, whether in novel or RPG form. Thanks for continuing to keep the world alive! |
| #18sesterOct 15, 2010 7:57:41 | I asked for more Eberron books in the survey, lets hope the listen. I also just finished 'The Fading Dream' (bought for the Kindle). I highly enjoyed the story, but was the series meant to be a triology? The conclusion certainly made it sound like we can expect more. |
| #19HellcowOct 15, 2010 12:09:53 | I also just finished 'The Fading Dream' (bought for the Kindle). I highly enjoyed the story, but was the series meant to be a triology? The conclusion certainly made it sound like we can expect more. Yes and no. I never intended Thorn's story to end with The Fading Dream. My goal was to have it be the conclusion of the first act of her story and to resolve the major mystery that's been going on since Queen of Stone - what's the relationship between Thorn and Sarmondelaryx? That's cleared up; the question going forward is what Thorn is going to do with that information. I know where her story would go if it continues, and I know other things I'd like to explore (Steel's history, for example). I hope there will be an opportunity to do so. So what I wanted to avoid was to leave things on a major cliffhanger, as I did in Gates of Night. I wanted to resolve the major mystery. The end of the story is supposed to suggect where things might go, but it's about the direction her life is taking next, not a life-or-death what-happens-in-the-next-five-minutes thing in the way that the epilogue of Gates of Night was. So I can't say whether you can EXPECT more, because that's up to WotC. But I already know what the next story would be, if I had the chance to write it. |
| #20VaelOct 15, 2010 14:55:23 | Yeah, I noticed a lack of Eberron novels when I was last in Chapters. Two or three Eberron novels surrounded by swarms of Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance books (which are how old? Are there any new ones?) Didn't even see the Fading Dream. It's currently not being offered online through Amazon.ca, though the Chapters online store is selling it. |
| #21joeburgosOct 15, 2010 14:57:31 | The survey appears to be done. Hi Keith, As somone who is fairly new to D&D4 (and Eberron in particular) I am also a bit discouraged at the lack of availability. My local Borders has half a wall of Forgotten Realms novels and *literally* 3 Eberron novels. Needless to say I picked up all 3 (Tim Waggoner's Blade of Flame series). I asked the store clerk why no more and he said they only carry what sells and they only restock based on their distributor. So I went on amazon and most of your books are out of print (some sold through marketplace). Im not keen on buying second hand paperbacks. I'll check a few more book stores around my area and see what I find. |
| #22HellcowOct 15, 2010 15:34:41 | I asked the store clerk why no more and he said they only carry what sells and they only restock based on their distributor. Which is essentially the problem. A store will only carry what sells; and a book obviously won't sell if no one even knows it exists. And if it doesn't sell, they certainly won't make more. So I went on amazon and most of your books are out of print (some sold through marketplace). Im not keen on buying second hand paperbacks. The Dreaming Dark series is out of print, and I don't imagine it will be coming back... though it is available in Kindle format. I BELIEVE the Thorn of Breland series (Queen of Stone, Son of Khyber, Fading Dream) is still in print. |
| #23OgiwanOct 15, 2010 15:54:48 | Needless to say I picked up all 3 (Tim Waggoner's Blade of Flame series). Bleh. Was not a fan of that series. |
| #24joeburgosOct 15, 2010 16:20:36 | Needless to say I picked up all 3 (Tim Waggoner's Blade of Flame series). I am actually enjoying the series. To be honest Drizzt has been done to death. Thanks Keith, I will look for those. Next I plan on picking up Fading Dream and the upcomming Lady Ruin on amazon. Still, I hope more good writers continue to write for Eberron. |
| #25Magicstar1Oct 15, 2010 18:02:28 | The distribution is really weird. Most of the serious "nerd" stores here in The Netherlands have closed over the last few years. However one of the larger bookstores in a big city had both the new Dark Sun novel and Keith's novel the day they were supposed to be released. Awesome book by the way Keith! |
| #26ChrisTheSOct 15, 2010 19:37:13 | I have to comment on the quality of the ebooks - compared to some of the epublishers out there, the D&D ebooks are top-notch (although the process of converting them from .mobi to .epub when I get them from Amazon sometimes does screwy things to the images, but fortunately, I don't mind manually fixing my ebooks). |
| #27IskandrOct 16, 2010 10:22:25 | The Fading Dream isn't being actively promoted on the main D&D page (which mentions Death Comes Easy), the main novels page (which doesn't mention any Eberron books), or even the main Eberron page (which does, however, have Son of Khyber). Wait a second, Death Comes Easy is actually getting released? Did hell freeze over or something? When it was pushed into limbo last autumn I thought it would never see the light of day. I can't even remember what happened in the first two except the parts about his hand. Heck, I don't even remember the main character's name. Darn, I might have to reread those after finishing The Fading Dream. It was never one of my favorite series but I'm happy it will finally get finished. More Eberron is always good. BTW, I'm about 175 pages into The Fading Dream. Awesome book, definitely would like to read more Thorn novels if Wizards green lights it. I actually set aside the second book in the Prism Pentad to start reading it. The Dark Sun books just seem to leave a bad taste in my mouth, but Eberron is like a cool glass of water! (Much needed too after a terrible romp through the desert!) |
| #28OgiwanOct 16, 2010 15:31:06 | Wait a second, Death Comes Easy is actually getting released? Did hell freeze over or something? When it was pushed into limbo last autumn I thought it would never see the light of day. I can't even remember what happened in the first two except the parts about his hand. Heck, I don't even remember the main character's name. The same goes for me. I actually started a thread titled, "Holy Crap! Death Comes Easy is being released!" or something of that sort. |
| #29sesterOct 18, 2010 13:36:06 | I also just finished 'The Fading Dream' (bought for the Kindle). I highly enjoyed the story, but was the series meant to be a triology? The conclusion certainly made it sound like we can expect more. Thanks for the reply. I certainly hope to read more of Thorns adventures. |
| #30Madfox11Oct 19, 2010 3:55:15 | Loved Fading Dreams... doesn't happen often lately that I start reading a book when I step into the train from work and next time I look I am at my destination ;) If I have a complaint, is that it only took two days to finish the book. I want a bigger page count. I like the fact that at times things seem rather unlikely, but having Thorn doubting things as well, and blaming it on the fact that it is due to the eladrin and their fairy tale nature. I am curious what my DM is going to do with it, considering my PC is an eladrin adopted by house Phiarlann since early childhood. |
| #31joeburgosOct 19, 2010 12:39:58 | I've ordered all 3 books in the Legacy of Dhakaan series! I read from the reviews that they are excellent. These will be perfect for my subway commutes. At least they are still in print. |
| #32hademairOct 19, 2010 22:50:14 | I hope Eberron remains viable so I can keep reading great novels with the tone that I'm looking for. I never used to be a reader until I looked into Eberron. |
| #33juanpierreOct 24, 2010 11:23:53 | Can't find the link anymore. I guess it was pretty temporary. I got a Kindle a few months ago, and it has given some life to my Eberron reading. I was able to buy a few out of print novels, such as the Dragon Below series, which I absoltely loved. I also just bought Son of Khyber so I can move on to the new one. |
| #34hanzo187Oct 25, 2010 14:12:52 | I will go on record as saying I greatly prefer Eberron novels over FR. The Realms are way too cookie-cutter for my taste, and Drizzt, in my mind, is one of the most uninteresting, one-dimensional characters I've ever read about. That's only me, but I think some the Eberron trilogies, particularly Legacy of Dhakaan (the best series from this setting, IMO), prove Ed Greenwood is racist towards goblins. ![]() |
| #35OgiwanOct 26, 2010 16:15:39 | Hahahahaha. I was actually struck by the racism that I felt was inherent in the FR setting, and started a thread on it. Evidently, some FR sage came up with a bunch of instances where Goblinoids (the dar) weren't wiped out on site/invited to work with the "civilized races". I still feel as if Eberron is a more accepting setting, though. |
| #36blackmage88Oct 26, 2010 19:30:51 | Just found a copy of The Fading Dream in a Borders in Dedham, MA! I guess the 4th bookstore I checked was the lucky one, eh? Curiously, I did NOT find it in the usual D&D section with all the FR/Dragonlance books. It was part of the usual, alphabetical order 'normal' sci-fi/fantasy section. Same for the recent Dark Sun book, actually. New Borders policy, maybe? |
| #37greydin25Oct 30, 2010 18:05:46 | Thanks for pointing this out, AvonRekaes! I've linked to it on HDWT. The more Eberron readers that respond, the better chance we have of seeing more Eberron in the future. Eberron is an awesome world! I have read all your books, currently almost halfway through The Fading Dream and they are all really good. I too have had a difficult time finding books so i have to go online, usually Ebay. It is my goal to read all the Eberron Novels and hopefully more will be written. Thanks for creating such an awesome world for us to enjoy! |
