| #1TyranthraxusJun 30, 2009 23:48:42 | I am playing a Deva Swordmage (nearly typed SwordSage) in an Eberron game (the character itself was converted as an Aasimar Swordsage in 3.5 to 4e). Picking the Deva equivalent was always going to happen, and I have just read the EPG recently and found out about their genesis and how they live. My character has memories of fighting in the Last War and has talked about them in game. As he is only 18 (child soldier who deserted), Ive been playing him a little 'experienced' for his years. Now however I have realised that this experience may go well beyond his 18 years into other wars/battles entirely. I have some questions on Devas though and Im pretty sure they are mentioned up on the EPG. (Btw.. I love that fact that they are the antithesis of the Rakshasa) 1) Do Devas remember with Clarity their past life/lives?. I had always thought it might be a bit like the Buddhist cycle of reincarnation where you dont really remember the past life.. or maybe get bits in flashes 2)Would Devas be closer to the human standard in Eberron? I noticed in an earlier sourcebook is states they are different looking and are extremely rare in Eberron (EPG) but I was wondering what others views are on this. 3) I had thought about making my character one of the ones who had helped Tira defeat Bel Shalor in a previous incarnation. (part of the 'band of heroes'). Which leads me to 4) Are Deva identifiable over different incarnations? Is a Rakshasa likely going to be able to pick them out no matter what new meat sack they are wearing? Any responses would be appreciated. |

I had always thought it might be a bit like the Buddhist cycle of reincarnation where you dont really remember the past life.. or maybe get bits in flashes 1. The Ecology of the Deva article states that Deva shed their memories when they take on new forms, but they still exist and occasionally some to the Deva as flashes of memory, dreams, or similair such things. 2. I'd go with the EPG here. 3. No idea on this one. 4. Once again according to the Ecology of the Deva article, it is possible to recognize them between incarnations(it is referred to as soul recognition) but it isn't guaranteed. The article implies that fate plays a hand in determining whether it occurs. It also implies that it is a much more common event between two Deva(well when they meet which is a rare event), so having it occur between a Rakshasa and a Deva could work on the same principle. |
