I have a player who's looking to play a Diplomatically-focused Kalashtar and would like to combine Psion (Telepath) with unarmed fighting to represent a focus on the Path of Shadows.

Is there a smooth way to blend Psion/Monk (both of whom have Diplomacy) w/out losing out on the strengths of either? Or at least minimizing the loss?

Or is there a way to turn the Psion into an effective unarmed fighter?

Thanks in advance

You should go to the charop boards for this. But my 2 crowns is that you will want to ask him to do Psychic Warrior, and focus on unarmed combat.

It seems like your more concerned about combat, so diplomacy can take the backseat if it needs. But if your more worried about flavor, just do psion/monk.

Yeah, I avoided the charops board as I was more concerned with being able to hit the salient points of her idea (Diplomacy, Psion, Path of Shadows) than ending up with a Spell-Eating Kobold ;)
Those guys scare me...the Charops guys I mean...oh, and the Kobolds.

Aaanywho, yeah...maybe just going Psion/Monk is the way to play this.

I suppose I was really wondering if there are any feats out there that might allow some kind of dual-progression to be more profitable for her. I know there are ones that allow for Sorc/Monk, Rogue/Monk, and a few others...

Got it!
Tashalatora and Ascetic Psion from Secrets of Sarlona help me do exactly what I need for her.

Dreamscarred Press recently published Mind Unveiled: Enlightened Monk which is a variant of the monk that gives some psionic abilities. I think it will closely match what you're looking for.

Regarding path of shadows, you might want to check out the Battle Dancer from Dragon Compendium; it's essentially a capoeira and is very fitting.

Meh, they're good people. If you label your post clearly, they're pretty good about understanding and respecting the difference between Practical Optimization (how do I do this character concept in a way that doesn't suck), versus Theoretical Optimiziation (i.e, Pun-Pun, et al.). It's probably worth giving them a whirl, because you're talking about two very distinct uses for your actions, and a standard muliticlass is likely to end you up with something puny on both ends.
