Jan 19, 2009 13:47:13 I am running the Dungeon Module "The Fallen Angel" and I was trying to make the radiant idol one of the major bad guys there are going to be running into, however, the players want to make sure the statue is ok. They've figured out it is a creature that has been flesh-to-stoned.

They are going to do some research on angels without wings. I don't really want them to discover much, but I want them to feel like they are getting somewhere.

So my question would be. How would you guys handle them dealing with this?

Jan 19, 2009 14:14:07 Have them find a respected expert who doesn't know a thing about what he is talking about. I would give them a chance to figure this out, but make it a difficult test.

Jan 19, 2009 15:56:40 You can supply them with all the correct information about a Radiant Idol, yet this doesn't have to lead them to a conclusion that its evil, dangerous or malevolent in any way (which actually could be the case sometimes - just not in this adventure).

Maybe they will stumble upon a story, in which the Radiant Idol rewards people who helped him return to Syrania with great riches (play on the PCs greed - always works ;))

Jan 20, 2009 19:53:48 or just don't make it clear that it's a Radiant Idol. There are numerous types of angels, so just throw in one or two other types that it might be, in addition to a Radiant Idol (just make up a couple of names). Or you could just have some sage quote a(n incorrect) text that talked about how Angels of Valor are sometimes wingless, just to throw them off the scent and make it so that a Radiant Idol isn't their only option (since some of them may have read Sharn: CoT and have heard of a RI).
