Dolgrim, Dolgaunt, (Bugbear?)

Sep 21, 2008 20:22:36 From what I've read goblin were mutated into dolgrims and hobgoblins became dolgaunts. Did they ever give an aberration transformation of bugbears? I know the Eberron Bestiary site has a gnoll and orc transformation. I thought it would be interesting to have a hobgoblin transform into a dolgaunt so I created a monster class for it(3E). Dolgrim doesn't work as well since there needs to be two goblins. Gnoll creature has the same problem although the orc could be done.

Not in currently published canon material... but the emphasis there is on "currently published."

I'm not. I'm playing a goblin bard in a non-Eberron game and just recently got the Lords of Madness. That got me wondering about the dolgaunt which I knew was made available as an excerpt. I don't actually have the Eberron Campaign Setting book (or any other Eberron book). (Not that my goblin bard would want to become an aberration. In fact he'd be horrified by it. He's very pro-goblin.)

As an aside, Dragon Issue #348 contained an article about other daelkyr creations. I can't remember if it had something related to bugbears or not.

Akleu - A long-limbed creature with transluscent flesh and a poisonous bite.

Dolgrue - An armor-bodied, dog-headed, crab-clawed beast that can inflict it's own bodily pain onto others.

Kyra - A huge winged brain that can absorb the corpses of its slain foes. Ew.

Opabinia - A big silverfish-looking thing with a sharp beak on the end of it's long thick tongue. Double ew.

Xenostelid - A huge-sized thing that looks like a combo of several different insects. Creepy.

Xorbeast - An enormously obese four-legged thing covered in slime. It has a mouth like an ****. I think I'm gonna puke. Awesome.

Doesn't look like any are altered bugbears.

I have that issue and I believe that the Dolgrue's are actually mentioned as being altered bugbears.

I definitely would love to see a "Xoriat's Children" article after the ECG comes out. Monsters, monsters and more monsters! Another Quori one like the one you did for Paizo in 3.5 would be awesome too, especially as they can't fit too too many monsters in the ECG. A series of Eberron monster articles to fill in certain types would be awesome.
