Dragonmarks and Polymorph

Jun 27, 2009 12:30:23 I was looking through the EPG and was wondering if anyone might have come across ruels about polymorph effect on a dragonmark. I forget if there were ruels for it in 3.5 but this is 4e. Does anyone know if a polymorph spell would effect a dragonmark or would it still be visible as normal.

As an example if useing the Hat of Disguise to shange how you look.

I'd leave this to player preference, in regard to polymorph effects.

I'd definitely allow spells and items to disguise a dragonmark. It's magical nature doesn't make it any harder to hide from mundane senses than a tattoo or birthmark. Obscuring it with clothing, makeup, an effect like that of a Hat of Diguise -- all of these will prevent mundane detection.

If your fluff describes the 'mark as glowing or whatnot (as several novels have depicted), maybe it becomes slightly more difficult. Still, a Hat of Disguise should be more than up to the task, in this regard. These things can make a Warforged look like an Elf, afterall.

Jul 01, 2009 15:30:07 I would say that polymorph effects would conceal the mark, and the mark only becomes visible when its associated rituals are used.

Jul 07, 2009 20:43:00 I've made it the rule in my current Eberron 4E campaign that if a changling were to pick up a dragonmark it's shapeshifting ability does not hide it, since it's an inherent part of the individual's being. External polymorphing influences, however, work just fine even for the changelings.

Jul 09, 2009 10:37:27 As there is a specific ritual to hide a dragonmark, I'd say it does not go away or hide under a polymorph effect. That said, depending on where it is, it can be easy to hide as it does not show through clothes/coverings like the caste marks in Exalted. So, unless you're a marked druid going to beast form, if the mark is where you can cover it, you're fine.

Jul 09, 2009 21:12:28 I have to agree with operations reply especially since there is a ritual that hides the mark until it is used. the magic within the mark sounds like it is stron enough to burn thru illusions and as stated covering it with clothing is the main way to hide them. also the campaign guide is out in 2 weeks maybe the final answer will be there.
